Bird of paradise

This bird of paradise had a new leaf coming in and it ripped in the middle and now the bottom half on one side is unfolded in the rest is still tightly folded up. Does anyone know why did this happen

@WormWarriorFarm your bird of paradise (I think lol) is really big do you know why this happened?

Hi Aelea.
I don't have a bird of paradise.
You may have seen my banana tree.
I can tell you tho...keep that leaf moist. Apply a few drops of water or a tiny bit of plant-safe oil (like diluted neem oil) directly inside the rip where the leaf is still holding on. Wrap a soaking wet, warm paper towel around the leaf section that is still rolled to help loosen the sap at the leaf edge. After about 15 minutes, try to help it unroll carefully. Don't force it...maybe try to use a wet Q-tip.
There's nothing you can do at this point to repair the leaf but it is still going to photosynthesize for the plant so... it'll just be a little different.
I try to increase humidity around new leaves to help them out of the "sticky" situation when I see the start to emerge.
Let us know how it turns out please.
