You are doing fine in my opinion. When I use my water meter I will make sure that I am placing it towards the middle and pressing it down to where most of the roots are. I also take at least two different readings on different sides of the pot to ensure they have all similar results. If one side is showing wet or moist I hold off on watering until it all reads some degree of dry.
That is a very good question. I’m thinking it depends on the plant? Like my aloe, snake plant, and Christmas cactus, I wait till they are DRY. So for them I would think you may want to test all the way at the bottom, just to make sure they are dry. But other plants like alocasia you may be able to use a different technique, testing further up, like in the middle of the pot. I feel like you would still get a more accurate reading at the bottom. I have always used the meter in that way, sticking in the dirt down close to the bottom, but never really thought about what I was doing. πŸ˜ƒ
On that note is there a moisture meter that can just say β€œstop overwatering your plants!” I think thats what I need. lol
@nellz4estfairyz me too, me too! Trust me…we are not aloneπŸ€ͺ
I work in a nursery and I do not trust the moisture meters...
Trust yourself instead... Pick up the plant.. Is it heavy or light.. Stick your finger down into the soil 2 inches.Do you feel moisture... I would rely on that More than a moisture meter.
I stopped using them when I stuck One into a plant that I had just watered and it said it was dry. That's happened several different times so I don't trust it
