Brazilian jasmine is super leggyโ€”should I chop?

Iโ€™ve had this #BrazilianJasmine for three years now. It stays outside all summer and comes inside to live under a grow light every winter. The first year, it threw a fit and dropped all its leaves, but since then, itโ€™s happy. I learned to acclimate it slowly. So, over time, itโ€™s vined around two trellises (I put the taller one in when it got too tall for the smaller wooden one, but by then, some vines had hardened into wood around the small trellis, so I left it in. Itโ€™s growing ridiculously tall, about 5 feet from the bottom of the pot to the top of the vines, and the bottom half of the plant has very few leaves. Should I try to chop and prop it? Iโ€™d also like to repot it, because Iโ€™m sure by now itโ€™s getting root bound. Itโ€™s been in the same pot for three years (I replace the soil on top every spring because I didnโ€™t want to deal with repotting with the trellises, but Iโ€™m willing to wrestle with it now, lol). Iโ€™m inclined to wait until spring no matter what, since itโ€™s really happy right now and growing tons of new vines and leaves, I donโ€™t want to disturb it. Anyway, Iโ€™m curious what other owners of plants like this do when it gets very bare on the bottom. Chop it off and chuck it in the bin
#brunchataudreys crew do any of you have any helpful thoughts? Lol @SuperbRaspfern @TheOddAsity @UltraKoreanfir
If you do chop it you could propagate the cuttings and have lots of babies (good gifts). I had a pothos that didnโ€™t have many leaves near the base of the plant so I cut it back so it would look better ( and I propagated the bits I cut off) but I think itโ€™s all a personal choice on what you want it to look like
@HealthfulGollum Iโ€™ve tried to prop this one before, and I didnโ€™t have any luck, but I was also considerably less experienced then, so Iโ€™ll give that another go! Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š
@BabeVila I would definitely chop and prop to give it a lot more growth points to form a shrub like plant. I saw one on FB just a bit ago. Lemme go find it.
I think it looks really pretty like this.
@BabeVila i would prop in 1/2 perlite, 1/2 sphagnum moss, in 2โ€œ pot then top w/moss; keep moist, not wet either use the DQ method oc clear cups w/domes or a gal sz ziploc zipped to use as greenhouse check every cpuple days to keep moist and in about 4 wks five stems a little tug, if u get resistance then u have roots, if not just be parient but it works 100% of the time!!!
@TheOddAsity soooo gorgeous!! So you think I should cut it all the way back? Iโ€™m nervous! But I trust you lol
