Brazilian jasmine is super leggyโshould I chop?
Iโve had this #BrazilianJasmine for three years now. It stays outside all summer and comes inside to live under a grow light every winter. The first year, it threw a fit and dropped all its leaves, but since then, itโs happy. I learned to acclimate it slowly. So, over time, itโs vined around two trellises (I put the taller one in when it got too tall for the smaller wooden one, but by then, some vines had hardened into wood around the small trellis, so I left it in. Itโs growing ridiculously tall, about 5 feet from the bottom of the pot to the top of the vines, and the bottom half of the plant has very few leaves. Should I try to chop and prop it? Iโd also like to repot it, because Iโm sure by now itโs getting root bound. Itโs been in the same pot for three years (I replace the soil on top every spring because I didnโt want to deal with repotting with the trellises, but Iโm willing to wrestle with it now, lol). Iโm inclined to wait until spring no matter what, since itโs really happy right now and growing tons of new vines and leaves, I donโt want to disturb it. Anyway, Iโm curious what other owners of plants like this do when it gets very bare on the bottom. #brunchataudreys crew do any of you have any helpful thoughts? Lol @SuperbRaspfern @TheOddAsity @UltraKoreanfir
If you do chop it you could propagate the cuttings and have lots of babies (good gifts). I had a pothos that didnโt have many leaves near the base of the plant so I cut it back so it would look better ( and I propagated the bits I cut off) but I think itโs all a personal choice on what you want it to look like
@HealthfulGollum Iโve tried to prop this one before, and I didnโt have any luck, but I was also considerably less experienced then, so Iโll give that another go! Thank you ๐
@BabeVila I would definitely chop and prop to give it a lot more growth points to form a shrub like plant. I saw one on FB just a bit ago. Lemme go find it.
@BabeVila i would prop in 1/2 perlite, 1/2 sphagnum moss, in 2โ pot then top w/moss; keep moist, not wet either use the DQ method oc clear cups w/domes or a gal sz ziploc zipped to use as greenhouse check every cpuple days to keep moist and in about 4 wks five stems a little tug, if u get resistance then u have roots, if not just be parient but it works 100% of the time!!!
@TheOddAsity soooo gorgeous!! So you think I should cut it all the way back? Iโm nervous! But I trust you lol
