@thatguy the difference between a monstera and a split leaf philodendron (Philodendron bipinnatifidum ) is that the monstera is a shape shifter and has fenestration (holes in the leaves) while a split leaf philodendron does not. The latter, also called Tree philodendron have lobes in their leaves. You never know what form the monstera leaf is gong to take until it unravels; a split leaf philodendron’s leaves always have that same charistic shape. If you were expecting a philodendron, for practical purposes you have different kind of plant A monstera is epiphyticβ€”plant that grows on another plant but is not parasitic, such as the numerous ferns, bromeliads, air plants, and orchids growing on tree trunks in tropical rainforests. With the monstera. You will want to give it something to climb on like a moss pole. These plants are very interactive because you β€œtrain” it to climb where you want it so you have some control over its shape. The care is otherwise similar, the big difference is that with the philodendron, you were looking at more of a wide shrub and now you have a epiphyte that will have a more vertical orientation. Hope that helps !
Monstera Deliciosa. Monstera is often conflated with philodendron.
Monstera!
@thatguy Hello Caroline! It’s most definitely a Monstera Deliciosa. I have two of them. They are wonderful plants.
