@Stall54Jo I chatted with the plant people at the botanical garden, they think the blotches look more like tissue damage. They recommended to feel the spots, if they feel soft or mushy, it could be fungal. If they’re dry and papery, it’s more likely light or watering stress. Either way, you can trim off the worst leaves and make sure the plant has good airflow.
I have a ruby that is kept outdoors which has similar marks. I’ve always attributed them to overwatering or having slightly soggy roots, from watering and regular rain.
I usually just snip the leaf off if it looks bad enough.
Have you noticed if the spots are getting larger or any pests hanging around? Check the underside of the leaves as well.
@FamedGymealily most of this stuff is on the underside of the leaf. It's ugly. I have not found any pest of any kind. I was thinking along the lines of this possibly being a fungus of some kind. Maybe I should use a fungicide spray. I am watching to see if it spreads. I've never seen this on the green leaved plant only the verigated ones.
@Stall54Jo I just went out to check mine, I have three of them in a single pot and the smallest one suffers the worst - shockingly bad. I should pay a bit more attention to it.
I’m heading to a local botanical garden this weekend, their nursery is really good to help identify problems. I’ll see what they say and report back.
Hey Joann, check out β€œrust fungus;” it might be the beginning of that. I’ve only read about it before, not sure if I’m correct.
Sorry, I'm just getting back to you @FamedGymealily @Jho It has been busy with many out of town guests. I checked the leaves involved and they are not mushy or dry they almost feel rubbery or sticky in some way. Great article on the fungus. I am going to use a copper fungicide to treat and amend my watering schedule. I thank you both for your input. HAPPY GROWING 🌱 πŸͺ΄ 🌿 🌾
