About Ficus 'Ruby'
Ficus elastica, more commonly known as the rubber tree, has a white, milky latex that is a source of natural rubber. They’ve also been shown to have excellent antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. The aerial roots of the rubber tree have been used to create incredible living bridges in India. The bridges get stronger over time as the roots slowly fuse together, and some are over a hundred years old! 🌉

How to fertilize Ficus 'Ruby'

Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Ficus 'Ruby' after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Leaf not growing! I got this for £2 looking a bit sorry for itself & it’s had this new leaf coming through for about 3 weeks. It hasn’t gotten any bigger & the plant doesn’t look to be any worse or better than when I got it! It sits in my west facing window so gets a fair bit of sun but not too much direct. I haven’t repotted, would this be a good idea? Any tips would be appreciated! Thank you

Uhm…Rubber Plant Props… So…I didn’t think I’d get this far, so now what do I do? Should I keep creating a greenhouse with a Ziploc bag or start growing it like the original plant (parent plant)? Any suggestions?😅

5 1/2 cups ? Got this beauty about 10 days ago and have not watered it yet. The app is suggesting 5 1/2 cups which seems like a lot. Never had this variety before - any thoughts? Many thanks! #rubyficus #Ficus

Yellowing plant! Help? #Ficus So this is one that I ordered online, it was about 2 months ago, there has been zero growth but I know they can have a long dormancy without any growing then be fine. My last one was about a month and a half before it started to grow. This one I was checking on it and all of my leaves have become yellow along the outer lines the two most recent leaves look less yellow but is beginning to get yellow as well. I do not have droopy leaves and it has not lost any leaves. Is the yellow natural for this ruby variety? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you! #rubberplant

Anyone know why the leaves on my Ficus are doing this? After watering, it is fully drained so no sitting water and it doesn’t sit in direct sunlight. #Ficus

What other plant parents say

Super fast grower in the correct light conditions and rewarding to watch because every couple leaves adds inches. Also very tolerant of low light - I had it on a bottom shelf with almost no light for a year and it was fine. It didn’t grow, but it didn’t suffer. Then as soon as I put it in a bright windowsill it started popping out leaves like crazy. The variegation is also gorgeous.
