Whatβs up with the deformed Hoya leaves?
This is my pot of gold. Most leaves are pretty healthy and uniform with green on the outside and white centers. This one branch of the plant started producing more green/odd shaped leaves sometime last fall. I had thought maybe the first one was caused by pests when I was treating for thrips in other parts of the house. So I treated these plants in my bedroom as well. No more pests, but still no have the deformed leaves popping out. Should I cut off this portion of the plant? #Hoya #HoyaHangout #HoyaPotOfGold #HoyaLatifolia #DeformedLeaves #GregGang #NewGrowth
You can safely remove the damaged leaves. This most likely was caused by pest or nutrient deficiency. Hoyas require calcium and magnesium. A lack of these causes crinkling and abnormal shapes. I would recommend trimming out the damage and inspect for any pest. Then get a good quality fertilizer that includes calcium. Water in well and maintain good moisture. When your soil feels dry at the top two inches, watering should be done. Make sure you have well draining soil for your Hoya. I would also run a good amount of rain water through the soil once a month to flush away excess salts. It's also a good idea to place your pot outside during rainfall to catch the natural amounts of H2O2 (naturally occuring hydrogen) found in rainwater.
@WormWarriorFarm ooh thank you for the tips. I was actually collecting rainwater last summer, but over the winter I had stopped and kind of forgot about it! Iβll have to start doing it again. Over the winter I have simply been stealing water from my fish tank. lol so far no one has complained. π
@nellz4estfairyz I always use distilled water when watering all my plants- that way there is no chemicals or salts that need to be washed awayβΌοΈπ Good Luck!πͺ΄πΏπΈπΊπΈ
