So.. bought this guy a couple of days ago, and after furt...

So what is my next step here? The leaves are showing that they are not happy at all! But do I just pull the skewers out and hope it will turn out okay? Or is it the big snip snip for those two leaves? Any help is greatly appreciated ๐Ÿ˜Š #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #philodendron #newplantmom #greggang

Just leave them be. Seems to be doin fine with the skewers in but I would snip at each end closest to the stem and leave the rest of the skewer in the stem.
Personally I would pull them out. They look like theyโ€™re damaging the leaf and if the plant gets bumped itโ€™ll rip right through it. What is going on with the last leaf ๐Ÿค” Iโ€™ve never seen that before!
@Propa yeah that's one of the leaves that the skewer is stuck through ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
I'm scared of pulling them out, as it opens up the wound to bacteria and pests, but also as you say - it might also be hurting it even more to keep it there, the skewer will eventually decay, as it is wood, and then it might kill the plant from within ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
@Linx Yikes on bikes!! Did you buy it at a nursery? Wondering if it's worth telling them about it - someone needs to be trained on proper plant care. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I agree with @Propa, I would pull them out. Maybe dust a little cinnamon around the wounds to try and keep bacteria out?

That last leaf is wild. Almost looks like some variegation patterns that are caused by (harmless) viral infections. I'd keep a close eye on it - if the brown spots start spreading, you might want to consider chopping it to keep the rest of the plant healthy.

Good luck, would love to see updates! โค๏ธ
@Linx absolutely..I already see what looks like possible infection around the site. Iโ€™d probably end up chopping and letting the plant focus on regrowing new healthy leaves but you can also just remove and keep an eye on it if you want to.
@ShipofRockets thankfully he seems in good health otherwise, but yikes indeed! He has big beautiful green leaves and a new one that is getting real close to ready to unfold! Would probably be best to just cut the losses and not put the rest of the plant in jeopardy for two of the smaller leaves ๐Ÿค”
Someone really did do him dirty in what looks like an attempt to keep him in the pot.. or something.

He is probably overdue for a new pot soon anyways, but I wanted to let him acclimate before repotting, and when pruning a little baby leaf at the bottom today, I saw the skewers ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
@ShipofRockets I cut the leaves today, and good thing that I did, because he was mushy behind the leaves ๐Ÿƒ so I cut what I could without damaging him further, and dusted him with cinnamon.
I also gave him a bamboo stick for stability, so now I hope he will heal and feel better soon. ๐Ÿƒโค๏ธ
