Fossils show Philodendrons growing as far back as 30 million years ago when South America was still connected to Antarctica! ❄️

How to fertilize Burle Marx

Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Burle Marx after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Burle Marx philo is droopy and yellowing since cold snap over Christmas 😭 Hello, I’m trying to get a better idea of what is going on with Burle Ives. Up until the extreme cold snap that happened over Christmas, he was thriving. The leaves were darker and shiny. I tagged him so you can see what he used to look like 😢 He hasn’t moved from his home spot. He wasn’t close to a window when it was cold. I’m guessing that since we ran our heat higher than normal, maybe there wasn’t as much humidity as there should’ve been? I’m really grasping at straw here though… Does this look like lack of humidity could be the reason? I used some Nature ID app that said it’s probably “Abiotic”, but it listed sooooooo many potential issues and things to check for… none seem to be the case here. I do have it about 3 feet from my grow light, but this doesn’t look like “sun scald” to me and like I said, it’s been in the same spot since the beginning, so I just don’t know. Maybe I could change the soil, could there be some plant disease in there that I can’t see? Please help if possible, I got this one from the first plant swap I ever went to and he had just ONE leaf and was doing so well 😭 Also if I may rant for a second: it is SO frustrating and disheartening that I take care of these plants better than I do myself and then they go and do nonsense like this. WHY CAN’T YOU JUST THRIVE I’VE DONE EVERYTHING FOR YOU, BURLE 😂😂😂😂 #PhilodendronBurleMarx #Philodendron #help #PleaseDontDie

Why’s he growing like this? He’s over 4 ft tall. Ignore the mess my house is right now. #Philodendron

Every angle I look at you, you're beautiful. Cant seem to have enough pictures of you. I worry a lil when peeps say the variegation isnt that stable. But I love it too much so when a 4 leaf specimen came up during live sale, I had to get it #wishlistplant #plantsmakepeoplehappy #philodendronburlemarx #philodendronburlemarxvarigata

I tried my luck with this struggling leaf cutting. I wasn’t even sure if he had a node and his leaf was quite damaged. A few months have passed and he is looking way less pale! He is even growing a new stem! Proud plant mama 🥺❤️ (feel free to help me identify him, i’m not sure he’s a burle marx)

I know it’s too much sun but pls tell me it’s not I don’t want to move my plant 😂 I really like the spot my plant is in and I don’t want to move it but it’s definitely a lil too bright… it’s about 5-6 feet away from a west facing window some of the spots where there when I got it but it’s definitely gotten a lil more noticeable should I move him to my east facing window? The 2 leaves covered by my big monstera leaf are looking less spotty than these 3

Burle Marx prefers for the soil to dry out between waterings and should be watered regularly. Use our water calculator to personalize watering recommendations to your environment or download Greg for more advanced recommendations for all of your plants.
☀️ Sunlight Needs

💨 Humidity
Burle Marx prefers dry environments. Providing extra humidity or misting your plant allows water to linger on leaves, which can create the perfect environment for harmful types of fungi.
🪴 Soil
Burle Marx does best in well-draining soil. A good soil will contain lots of organic matter such as coco coir as well as perlite or vermiculite to help with drainage. Adding a handful of perlite to regular store-bought potting soil should do the trick!
💩 Fertilizer
Burle Marx should be repotted after it doubles in size or once a year, whichever comes first. Fresh potting soil has all the nutrients your plant needs, so as long as it’s refreshed yearly, you shouldn’t need to use fertilizer. Remember, plants get their energy from sunlight, not fertilizer!
❄️ Dormancy
Burle Marx does not have a typical pattern of dormancy. If you notice their growth slowing down substantially, double check that they are getting enough sunlight and water to thrive!
🌎 Native Region
Burle Marx is native to Central, South America, and the Caribbean.
🧐 Troubleshooting
When troubleshooting a sad-looking houseplant, start by checking for signs of distress in its leaves, such as yellowing, browning, or drooping, which can indicate overwatering or nutrient deficiencies.
Inspect the soil moisture; too dry or too wet soil can cause problems.
Ensure the plant is getting the right amount of light, as too much or too little can stress it.
Finally, consider environmental factors like temperature and humidity, and adjust care routines accordingly to revive your plant.
Care Summary for Burle Marx
Burle Marx
Greg recommends:

0.5 cups every 9 days

< 6ft from a window

Repot after 2x growth
Based on the 4” pot your plant is in, and that it doesn’t get direct sunlight.

What other plant parents say

It loves sun about the same as an elephant ear, so if you like elephant ears, this is a great way to break into philodendrons! Bonus points for being gorgeous. Sleek, deep green leaves of a pleasant shape, new growths are a delicate and vibrant green, and stems sometimes have a pinkish blush. One of my favorites!
