old alocacia leaf still not fully open?
hello! i’ve had this beautiful alocacia for a little bit now and she’s given me two new leaves, however the second to last leaf she made, still hasn’t fully opened. the leaf above the bottom leaf is newer, and yet it’s far more unfurled. any reason behind this?

If the wonky leaf is still soft and supple, it *might* still open the rest of the way. But if it's already "hardened off", it's unlikely to finish unfurling at this point. As long as new leaves have emerged normally since that one came out, I wouldn't worry. Something probably happened while it was developing, like physical damage, too low humidity, etc. Occasionally plants spit out a "special" leaf lol 😜
@MamaLinne i think she gets pretty good light? shes in a very open south facing window
@ghost_energy i’m not sure.. back when the newer leaf was first emerging, it was lower than the older leaf, and was still completely unfurled
@newplantgirlies how about humidity and fertilizer?
@MamaLinne she’s right next to a humidifier and i fertilize every other week!
@newplantgirlies I got nothin then! 😂💚
@stephonicle yeah i think it’s hardened off, looks like she’s just got a unique leaf now! thanks for the answer!😌
@newplantgirlies yep! Steph is right ☺️ If you have had two leaves open for you, that means, before that, she was first at the grower or nursery, then she might have transferred to more of a retail setting. Lots of things can happen during that time, inconsistencies with light, watering, or humidity are quite common, along with things like mechanical damage, getting moved, you name it. As long as the newest leaf looks good and healthy, you can rest assured.
This happened with my verrucosum, when his first leaf (for me) opened there were some weird, cosmetic, leaf damage spots, which I learned later were consistent with the humidity being too low at the plant shop I got him. But all the leaves since have been beautiful.
Congrats on your alocasia! She’s beautiful 🤩🥰
