Moss pole

I'm new to monstera fam and have noticed Moss poles on a lot of them can anyone tell me more about them? Are they essential? What size pot would take one and what size plant would need one? Thanks! #monstera #monsteramob
Monstera in the wild will climb and attach to trees with their aerial roots. The moss pole helps simulate this. They’re usually about 1-2” in diameter so Basically whatever size your monstera is, size up about 2-3” to accommodate the pole. To start, I use garden velcro to attach the monstera to the pole until it’s aerial roots attach to it.
They aren’t essential but if you want your plant to grow up then you would need one. Otherwise it will grow out and be quite large in diameter.
If you think you’d like a pole for your monstera I recommend putting one in early and not waiting until your monstera starts looking unruly. It’s easier to attach one on a juvenile monstera versus an older one.
I also find they grow much bigger leaves when they climbβ€” as opposed to hanging.
My first monstera didn’t have a pole. The plant was healthy and growing but the stems were all over the place. My second monstera, I added a moss pole early on while the plant was still young and I see so much bigger leaves, neater growth (it just grows up against the pole rather than flopping around all over the place), and it’s just overall much easier to manage.

Definitely not necessary to have a pole but as your plant grows it will make maintenance much easier for you.
