Why are my leaves pale and smaller? I think my #maranta ...
She's still pushing out leaves but color seems much paler than before... they used to be dark green & big last winter /spring and wondering if either of these (A, B, or C) are a factor...
A) Maybe I made my soil too dense? ðĪ·ð―ââïļ
- I used two parts peat moss/coco coir, one part small particle sized pumice, and one part finished compost + a sprinkle of worm castings. I made sure to check the pH of the soil and it was between 5.5 and 7, which I read was recommended... but maybe it doesn't like the compost I used?
P. S I do have her right above a humidifier which I keep around 60% and I mist her every now and then for a little extra assist.
B) The pot is too tall? ðģ
I discovered later that it definitely could have used a more shallow pot so I'm thinking of repotting and putting a 2 inch layer of charcoal on the bottom ( something that has worked very well for my succulents that are in pots too tall for the roots.
OR...
C) â She's getting too MUCH light?
I have her positioned in a corner which is in between two windows. (See ðļ)
One of them is west facing, so I keep the blind closed halfway so that she doesn't get direct sun in the afternoon and the other window is south facing â she doesn't get any direct light from that window, only indirect.
The blinds are only open in the bedroom from about 11am or noon to 7pm due to my partner's sleeping schedule...
I do have the option of moving her much further away from the west facing window to the other corner of the bedroom but then she might not get enough light?
What are your thoughts?
P. S. A few months ago my cat chomped holes in about 4 leaves ðĨš.
They were beyond saving... so I cut them off or she would be much fuller if it wasn't for that ð

I think it's beautiful and looks healthy! But, my thoughts are that it probably is getting more light than you need if you want the darker colors. If you want it darker, move it to the other spot. The depth of the pot probably won't affect it too much, PROVIDED that you watch how moist you keep it. If you move it, you may need to alter your watering schedule by a day or two, as it may not dry as quickly in the lower light.
@UltraKoreanfir
I totally agree
Probably will see better results!
