@Bmd have you ever looked into permaculture or food forests? The basic idea of it (and its kind of hard to define) is to garden based off of what tends to grow natively in your area so you use less resources, or also like a way to set up regenerating systems. And, the way you set up things is quite efficient; neediest or most tended, or most water using plants (like herbs, tomatoes) closest to your door, less tended plants, trees, farther away. I’ve probably bungled up the explanation but it’s a great rabbit hole to fall into 😄
