Good morning! Question for all of my #HoyaHeads #TheWater...

Good morning! Question for all of my #HoyaHeads #TheWateringHole folks and others who are hoya obsessed! 🀩 Many of you remember my plant mail heuschkeliana variegated disaster (long story short, mail person set it behind my car and my husband ran over it. I had to start it all from cuttings again.) The cuttings are rooting and beginning to send out new leaves , but they’re completely white! I’m not quite sure what to do about it. Any tips? They’re currently in fluval and perlite, in a prop box next to an LED light. #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #Hoya #HoyaHangout
I would say, it must be getting all the light it needs! I am sure some of its leaves will be green or part green, as it grows.
@AC73LoveCats I hope so- almost all of my variegated plants have at least some green on the new leaves, so I’m worried these are too variegated to sustain the growth of the plant.
@MamaLinne Good afternoon I just started hydroponic Hoya’s so fingers crossed that they come to life like yours ! Nice job and I got to ask where did you get the humidity boxes ? Love them
I used to cut them off if they were all white, but I have a memory of hearing you don’t have to do that (?) So I think I’d leave it and see what happens. Here’s one of my Hoyas with a mostly white leaf followed by a green one πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
@MamaLinne if you have green leaves and stems below the white leaves, you may have enough energy production to sustain those white leaves. Eventually I believe the white leaves will wither or what my Krimson Queen does is just drop them. I read that heuschkeliana can produce ghost vines. It’ll be interesting to see what develops. Depending on how many cuttings you have you could try cutting back to green node on some, and leave the others alone to see what happens.
I’m new to the Hoya scene, so I’m just learning from all of you. It’s so great to see all this wonderful information! Love it, πŸ₯°. I gotta say I know we aren’t supposed to love the white, but I think that color is gorgeous, and I love the sunstressing that seems to be coming out. I hope I’m saying that right. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜… But that white with the pink undertones is simply gorgeous! πŸ₯°
@Idplantthat it really is beautiful! I hope it keeps some of that while giving me some more mostly green ones!
@ILoveMyPlants ah, those are acrylic shoe boxes from AMZ! They’re inexpensive and easy to put together! GUDEMAY Clear Stackable Plastic... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BY9BQN1M?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
@MamaLinne that’s a very healthy attitude towards it. πŸ₯° I absolutely can’t wait to see it grow and the changes and all the beautiful shades. ☺️ Can’t wait for the updates πŸ˜‰
@MariansOasis I do think this could be a ghost vine. We shall see! πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚
Hi Deb, here is an article I found. I hope it helps. 😁 Possible Causes for White Hoya Cuttings
Mealybugs
Description: Mealybugs are small, white, cottony pests that can infest Hoya plants.
Symptoms: Look for white, sticky residue or clusters on the leaves and stems.
Treatment:
Swab affected areas with rubbing alcohol.
Spray the entire plant with insecticidal soap or neem oil if the infestation is severe.
Other Pests
Spider Mites: These can also cause discoloration and may appear as fine webbing.
Fungal Issues: White powdery mildew can develop in humid conditions.
Inspection and Treatment Steps
Inspect Cuttings: Check for any visible pests or signs of fungal growth.
Isolate Affected Plants: Keep infested cuttings away from healthy plants to prevent spreading.
Apply Treatments: Use alcohol swabs or sprays as needed, ensuring to cover all foliage.
Prevention Tips
Regular Checks: Frequently inspect your Hoya cuttings for early signs of pests.
Proper Care: Maintain appropriate watering and humidity levels to keep plants healthy and resilient against pests.
By addressing these issues promptly, you can help your Hoya cuttings recover and thrive.
