#TheWateringHole Hope everyone has had a happy hump day! I am vacationing in Savannah while my hubby is attends a conference. I did a lot of watering on Saturday and Sunday before we left. According to Greg, I’ll be doing a lot of watering when we get back tomorrow afternoon and on Friday while I’m still off work. Hope all my plants babies are OK and hopefully, I’ll see a new leaf or two! I have snapped some flower and plant pics on my walks around town. Anybody else check out the plant life on vacation? I love a good planter/flower box!

@RefinedSandwort I’m glad you have a vacay! I always check out the plant life around me wherever I go too ☺️ @FitBrowallia Jonchel I also recently got a Hoya retusa! Such funny little weirdos. I can’t wait until mine is long and trails over the pot 😄 @FamedGymealily beautiful traditional gardens. Are those a couple herons I see perched on those rocks? 👀
I’m currently waiting for my Hoya sp aff burtoniae to open these blooms, and my Hours ‘Mathilde’ has peduncles all over!

Hi Joy! I hope you’ve had the best time vacationing and I wish you safe travels home. I’m sure your oasis is anxiously awaiting your return!! I’ve got something weird going on with Buffy, but in a good way (?). She was droopy a little bit ago and I couldn’t figure out why the sudden change. I repotted her into some fresh soil and fert. While the droops on the big leaves never stopped, she’s now growing new leaves like crazy, so that’s good. She’s been flowering THROUGHOUT the whole ordeal - she cray. Anyways, the weird thing is the flower stalk is nearing its natural end, I presume, as it’s on its last blooms and starting to dry up. However, she’s grown a leaf off the flower stalk. And now a second. So I’m guessing that stalk isn’t gonna drop off after all once the blooms are done. 🤷♂️ Just thought it was kind of neat/weird and someone may find it as interesting as I did. @DreamMachine I bet you are chomping at the bit for those peducles to open up!! I took up your challenge the other day, but in typical fashion, tweaked it just a bit. I ordered my first Hoya! Not a burt but instead a Lacunosa violet. 🤩 @FitBrowallia congrats on the new plant mail Jonchel!! They look fun!! lol at not remembering a set - been there!! Ohhhh one last thing I’ll throw in- this Begonia “Darth Mal” that I picked up the plant market thinking I’d probably kill it but couldn’t resist… he’s doing alright in ambient (for now), from grouping and his semihydro setup. We’ve got minimal leaf melt, and I just removed that hygrometer from the top of his pon - 81%! Come winter - oy, I don’t know yet. 🤪
@Jho Blooms and new leaves 🍃 are a good sign! Those are so pretty! See you have been tempted by the Hoya craze. I’m waiting on a trip to a locally owned plant 🪴 shop about an hour from my house. I’m itching to go . Don’t know if I’ll buy a Hoya or another pothos or philodendron. Maybe 🤔 more than one if the selection is as good as it looks online!
#TheWateringHole Here’s my last pics from Savannah. Got a good walk around and a little last minute shopping 🛍️ done. Now back at the hotel full of praline samples and waiting on my hubby and my brother in law and sister in law to finish their last meeting.
@RefinedSandwort that sounds like a fun trip!! Great pics, and ugh - I work with those big ships and containers all day. If the plant shop is an hour away, you’ll just HAVE to make it worth it and pick up more than one!! 🤪 I’ve always liked the Lacunosas since I saw a Laos and was originally after that, but when I saw the Violet, well… hahaha. It’ll be a fun foray into a new type. I’ll need to do an anthurium at some point too, just for the ✔️.
@DreamMachine yup, a pair of grey herons. Just to the left was an area with a couple dozen of them making a racket.

@FitBrowallia Maybe the one that is not happy will perk up with the fresh soil, some light and watering when it’s time. After all this time of learning to let succulents get bone dry, I am struggling with learning to identify when it’s time to water regular plants!

@CutePolypremum It was still hot and humid, but I made it OK walking about. Thank God for shade trees!

For Buffy, I’m wondering if the flowering just wore her out. 🥱😴 It takes so much energy to bloom. But it’s great that she looks like she’s chompin to get more baby leaves going! If you wanted to help her along you could snip off the flowers 🤷♀️ I know a lot of begonia people do that, especially in the beginning so they can focus on foliage. But of course that is up to you!
And dear sweet baby Jesus that ‘Darth Mal’ is STUNNING 🤩😱😱 I have something similar on my wish list but can’t remember what the name was. Hope he makes it because, wowza 🤯😍

@DreamMachine hey Nadia! I hadn’t heard of violet before either, but I ran across it on Palmstreet and started researching. I also added a Parviflora Tala, since she had the box open. 🤪 Should get the plant mail later this week. So I did chop the flower stalk on Buffy and look what I woke up to this morning. She is quite stubborn! Every time I look, there’s more leaves coming up so I guess I’ll see how this one plays out. 👀

My burtoniae opened up his first blooms last night!! They smell HEAVENLY. The most delicious buttery caramel or butterscotch 🤤
And look at Buffy go!! I think that was a good choice 🤌 I love how all the new leaves just look like little fuzzy crumpled tissues 🤭😅 They look strong and healthy too!
And oh my GAWD, I just have to tell you this because, well, you’ll know. 😂 I fell out of love with my BMF months ago. We just didn’t mesh, relationship wise. But I didn’t have the right person to rehome him to with his 14 non fenestrated leaves. I didn’t want to give him to just anybody!! 🤷♀️ I wanted someone who would take care of him like he deserves 🥲 I got a new coworker within the last month, and turns out the BMF was a dream wish list plant of hers, and she had to get rid of tons of her collection before moving here. 😭 So, of course, PERFECT! I was so happy to gift him to her. She was so excited!
That was two weeks ago. And a few days ago, her first new leaf opened…TOTALLY FENESTRATED 🤣🤣🤣🤣🙃🙄🙄🫠 I died laughing.

@DreamMachine Congrats on your blooms!!!! Yessss, I’m so glad they smell good! None of my flowers have ever really smelled yet. I love the little star shapes on them too. Omg that’s hilarious about the BMF! I totally get what though mean about waiting for ✨the universe✨ to bring the right person to you; I did almost the exact same thing with my esqueleto. It went to my barber eventually, whose wife is a plant freak like us. Your BMF sounds like a spiteful old fart to have withheld those fenestrations - good riddance! Hahaha 😂
@DreamMachine aw thanks, she’s doing ok.. a little bit of crispiness but only one leaf lost so far. She put out some heavy heavy var leaves, so I took her down further from the light and grouped with the other begonias to try to save her from the AC. Now.. we wait to see what happens. lol
