π Crikey! Say Hello to My Little Friend - PART 2 -TDS Meter
Isn't She a Beauty, Mate π!
Hi Plant Friends and CP Fans,
This is a continuation from Part 1 (What is a TDS meter) see;
https://greg.app/question/292upr/say-hello-to-my-little-friend-the-tds-meterpart-i-hi-plant-friends-and-cp-fanssay-hello-to-my-little)
So I will share my tipsy Tuesday tip #tipsytuesday) πΊ π» using a TDS meter with a new Carnivorous Plant (CP) as an example:
1. Having bought a CP, the first thing I do is a "radiation β’οΈ rinse shower πΏ").
I place the pot in a small water container and pour distilled water onto the soil.
2. I then test the water with a TDS for mineral content (eg 350 ppm - parts per million of total dissolved solids {TDS} and eg pH (as CPs prefer a more acidic soil mix).
3. I keep flushing distilled water (0ppm) until the TDD reads 50 ppm or less (a CP soil mix prefers no minerals or as low as possible)
4. I also use this technique for any soil mix I use that I usually find has a high mineral content so I get eg peet moss or sphagnum moss also below 50ppm) before potting.
5. If I know the soil mix is not acidic enough I will give my CP a drink of cold coffee to make it more acidic.
And that's it! Go to Part 1 to add your TDS meter tips . Best tip is awarded best answer. Here it is just noted below.
I also record the TDS meter measurements (eg via Bluetooth) to phone app)
HOT TIP: Zero Water jugs are great for 0ppm water for CPs and come with a TDS meter! Two for the price of one!
An Amazon link for an example is below:

@Seymour Okay, for the cheap seats in the backβ¦. What is a TDS meter? It definitely sounds like something to learn more about! Time for me to put those research skills to work π·π»ββοΈ
@Seymour PS your meme-fu is strong today!
@LaSiguanaba that a good question, RoseRed. But my first question is why are you in the cheap seats πΊπΊ LOL π€£ππ€£ up the back πππ
To assist, as so far you are the only one interested, i have now added a link above to Part 1 and hopefully some poor technical answer will await you there. To aid any momentary research. But it's just a tool and perhaps not the only one when it comes to plants LOL πππππ

@Seymour Thabks for the linksβ¦ that is a very handy gadget! Plus I want to try creating a salt water aquarium at some pointβ¦ π€ You see where this is headed
@LaSiguanaba a slippery slope...I just replied to Part 1 but as I said there, ask Michael (tipsy Tues) about a Zero Water jug as he has one. I added his handle on the Part 1 post
