Surprise hoya curtisii at Walmart!

My #BigBoxStoreFind

I honestly was just going to the store for an Ethernet cable at Walmart. And although I know better, I made sure to pass through the garden section.

I have seen single cuttings of Hoya curtisii selling for $8-$10 in my area, and 4 inch pots selling for $25. This beauty, in at least a 7 inch pot, was under $20. And I feel like I am saving it from being watered to death.

I am definitely taking precautions by keeping it separate from my plants for a few months. And hitting it with a mitacide just in case.

I’m still debating if I want to leave or hang or try to trellis it. I want to see it start to grow better first.

@PlantznBirdz nice score on the Hoya Curtisii. I got mine at Lowes same price & size too. It seems the big box stores carry the Curtisii often usually from Costa Farms Nursery. He was extremely wet when I brought him home. I didn’t water him for couple weeks. He is in a southwest window. I’ve had him for 3 months & I recently repotted with a better draining soil. Although Hoyas usually like to be root bound, when I checked them his roots were extremely tight in that peat moss based nursery hanging planter & had no more room to expand/grow. I suggest checking the roots on your plant after yours settles in a while.
@Rockrlee thank you! I will definitely check the roots and repot (if needed) after the shock of rehoming it is over. This one was wet, but luckily not soaked when I checked yesterday. I was going to give it at least a week to 10 days before o water it again. And it’s also from Costa Farms. I have lucked out with a few carnosa varieties from Lowe’s in the past. I’m happy to see these more β€œcommon” Hoyas showing up at the box stores at affordable prices.
