Is a coco pole necessary for monstera?

Hey #monstera fam, how necessary is a coco pole or other vertical support for this plant?
3ft to light, indirect
12” pot with drainage
Last watered 4 years ago
Not necessary, but it will definitely help your plant grow larger leaves!
No need they are creepers
You don’t need it! But as Keetna said, it may help to grow larger leaves. Also, as the plant gets older and much larger in size, support might become more necessary.
It will just grow outwards instead of upwards ☺️
Mine eventually just needed support, but didn’t necessarily need the pole to climb!
Thanks everybody!! 😁 I appreciate the feedback!
I think you’re good without one at the start but my monstera really loved it once it started getting massive. Mine got so big that it was practically falling out of its pot
Once it gets big enough, it could use the support. otherwise it might start to spill out of the pot like mine is. πŸ˜‚
They are not necessary but I have two that are growing like crazy so I had to buy poles for them to support them. Mine have almost doubled in size since I got them. Mine are super happy πŸ™ƒ plants for sure.
Monsteras are climbers. If you want your plant to thrive and grow large fenestrated leaves, get your buddy a moss pole. If it doesn't have something to climb, the leaves will just sprawl out.
It helps to give them something to attach to as they want to do that (that's why they throw out aerial roots for stabilisation), but isn't 100% necessary. I personally have all my monstera varieties climbing
And as others have said, the pole helps it throw out larger, much more fenestrated leaves. The fenestrations will also come with more light
10ft from a window is actually a large distance for a monstera. Light strength/intensity drops dramatically after 1m from a window. It's not visible to our eyes, but it makes a world of difference to plants that like bright light
Mine is still young but it was getting unruly so I use the coco poles to loosely attach them to to keep it more vertical instead of horizontal and taking up so much space. I wish I could let it get out of control but I just don’t have the room.
