Here is a strange growing Sweet Gum tree. I have no idea what makes, some, trees grow like this. I made a video of this tree however Greg has no way to post it. So I took two screenshots from the video. Please click onto the photo on the left to get a better view of the tree bass 😁 #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PlantTherapy #RarePlants #PlantID @AdonicKohleria2 @BabeVila @BuffCaperspurge @CutePolypremum @DanDenMan @DreamMachine @FamedGymealily @HummingbirdMint @Jujube @princesspitstop @Preciousplants1 @ModestCoconut13 @MamaLinne @TopCoriander6 @Ochapkin @stephonicle
Very strange and cool! When I would try to spook my younger siblings I would tell them that trees like that were growing around some things that we couldn’t see 😜
@DreamMachine 🤔😉
When I was growing up in Chesapeake,Virginia (Great Bridge) there was a huge gum ball tree in the lower section of the back yard and that tree was in a shape of a W. The image that you are sharing is in some means is a shape of a awarkeward W shape tree trunk. The tree in your photo is probably around the age of 50 years old
@GoodLecanora84 , I have a lot of family on the Chesapeake side of the Delmarva Peninsula in Virginia. Oak Hall, Temperanceville, Withams, Ananncock. They have been there forever I think since the 1600s.
@Malagueña What a clever little tree after it figured out that horizontal growth didn’t work it changed direction and grew vertical. genius !
@Malagueña 😊, Quite an interesting tree indeed, i am sure that tree is a mathematician and loves angle 90 degrees
@Ochapkin , that’s a cool observation. I actually have a photo of a Cypress tree doing the same thing. Which I’ll post later on.
@Malagueña

The different species of trees around the world are amazing!
@CutePolypremum , yes they are. However, I’m not sure what made this tree grow like that. I have a sweet gum tree growing in front of my house that I planted about 40 years ago and it’s growing straight straight up.🤔
@Malagueña

Forty years ago?
That's truly awesome!
@CutePolypremum , yes I also have a hibiscus bush that I planted around the same time. It too is 40 years old. What’s really weird is that the Internet says those plants only live 5 to 10 years. Unfortunately my sweet gum tree is dying. The top 6 feet of it are dead. I had an arborist look at it. He said the roots probably got into a different kind of soil. It may be getting too much water in its roots. He told me it’s developing root rot. Of course, I dislike seeing it die. My father and I planted it and he is long passed.
@CutePolypremum , here it is I just went outside and took a photo. It’s seeds look like little spiky balls. I’m thinking about propagating them. The trees behind it are live oak tree trees.
@Malagueña

So sorry about your sweet gum tree 😑. You have such bittersweet memories, no doubt.

The photo you just took is breathtaking.
Propagating those spiky balls would be a good thing...if you feel like doing that. 🙂

We have a few oak trees here. Are there different varieties? 🤔
