My plant looks like it’s dying.. is it?

Hello! I am in desperate need of some help! I got a Garden hyacinth 2-3 months ago and have been watering it according to this app and have rocks in the pan so that it is getting some humidity and it is losing leafs so so fast. The flowers died almost immediately and I’d say 80% of the plant is gone leafs wise. They turn yellow and brown then sag then break off. Sometimes when it’s fully yellow and hard and I try to pull it off it still has roots tha look healthy connected that also just pull right out. I need help to make it healthy and grow more. Otherwise rn there is no new growth.i also uploaded a current photo of the plant.

I'd like to do the right thing so my hyacinth blooms next Spring. I heard I'm supposed to keep it in a dark, cool place, like the basement. Is that True, and do I water it at all? Right now, the flower & stems have died off. Thank you for your response. #GardenHyacinth

Also I heard they are poisonous should I be washing my hands and wearing gloves? I just got it today someone gifted it to me. I know these may be dumb questions but idk what I’m doing.
