Calathea 'Julia'
About Calathea 'Julia'
Many of the houseplants we used to know as Calatheas now belong to the genus Goeppertia (say that three times fast). These plants have delightfully patterned leaves that come in all sorts of colors and shapes! Commonly known as prayer plants, the leaves of some species fold up at night through a process called nyctinasty meaning night movement! 😴

Finding light for Calathea 'Julia' in your home
Calathea 'Julia' may have difficulty thriving, and will drop leaves 🍃, without ample sunlight.
Place it less than 3 feet from a south-facing window to maximize the potential for growth.
Select your region to see how the current weather in your area affects the placement of Calathea 'Julia' in your home 🏡.
How to fertilize Calathea 'Julia'
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Calathea 'Julia' after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Jelly fish roots. While very cutesy & very demure… it’s well. Awful ! Root rot 🥹😭 I didn’t know she was in straight up coco coir or peat moss. Whatever this is!!! I wanted her to seriously acclimate before I repotted. Well that was not in my favor 🥹🍃 here’s to hoping she doesn’t die 😉😁✨☀️ I’m out of hydrogen peroxide too 😭 now is not the time!!! #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #RootPorn #RootRot #WHY #CalatheaCrew

Is melted snow equal to rain water? I have collected rain water for this plant, rather than using my chlorinated tap water, but now it’s too cold to rain! Can I melt snow and use that water? Also, for my tap water I run it through a brita filter attached to the kitchen sink, into a big jug and let it sit overnight, so that hopefully some of the chlorine will dissipate. The filter should remove some chlorine as well right? Would this water be ok? I added a photo because he lost a lot of leaves when I brought him inside in the fall, so we are at a precarious stage where I don’t want to kill him! #CalatheaCrew #calatheamakoyana #makoyana #HappyPlants #rainwater #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #theamigos #NEPAGregGang #help

Crunchy leaves I received Bruce Leaves as a birthday gift. He was pretty dry when I got him on Tuesday, but he looked good. The next day, several leaves are browning, dry, and crunchy. I did water him once I got him home. Do they struggle when transported? What should I do? I feel like this is going to be a difficult plant and require a little more care than some others. But I am concerned. Are the leaves lost? What should I do? #PrayerPlant
