Best Answer
That’s a Gollum Jade. The lady finger hedgehog looks entirely different.
Whoa! I’m not sure - I was confident when he was gifted to me but now…. Hmmm… let’s see what our pros have to say. And I’ll specifically tag the beautiful and talented @AnthuriumQueen
Mine was labeled as a lady finger from the H‑E‑B florist, where a friend bought it! It reminded her of the YouTube videos “Lucas the Spider” which I use with some of my classes.
@RealSimpleMama I believe you can scroll to the very bottom of the plant and “see others like this.” I’m just curious if Greg labeled mine wrong now 😂 we will figure it out ❤️
I’ve always heard that one have different nicknames. Et fingers. Ogre ears or shrek ears. Or jade gollum
Or gollum jade
Crassula ovata
All of those are Gollum Jades I'm 99% sure haha. I Googled what it's telling you and it looks completely different 😹 Plus I have Gollum Jades myself lol

Yes it’s gollum jade. The lady fingers “similar plants “ don’t look like jade at all
@SirLiquorice yes but her plant had a different name which made me question if I labeled mine wrong. Hers was labeled lady fingers but it’s gollum jade.
@RealSimpleMama either way beautiful!! I love the ogre ears. They’re my favorite succulents I have 💜
@MissBrittney yeah if anything it should’ve said ET fingers. But the app still is not always accurate with identifying
@SirLiquorice I found the link you shared to be very interesting. It is no wonder some of us and the ID programs can be so confusing. 😃
@Stall54Jo they look especially crazy and different once they get large. They look like a completely different species
It's very cool looking when they get bigger. They look like trees.
@MissBrittney @fitsedum @SirLiquorice @RealSimpleMama

The confusion of these Crassula Ovata varieties stems from the multitude of common names for both of them... and the fact that their scientific cultivar name is used interchangeably by people... and unfortunately nurseries. 😑

The scientific name of the the funky tubular Ovatas - ET/Shrek, orgre, fingers, trumpet, etc. — most confused are:

1) Crassula Ovata 'Hobbit'
2) Crassula Ovata 'Gollum'

Here's a video that explains the difference:

And here's a link to the Ovata varieties:

[Edited to add this link 👇🏽 I forgot to paste 😳]

Only 'Hobbit', 'Gollum', & 'Skinny Fingers' (a cultivar Similar to Hobbit and Gollum —see how confusing it is now??! 😅)...
are official listed as a species — other names are all common names of Ovata Jade varieties.

This is why common names make ID's so darn confusing!
😖😮‍💨

Okay.... End of rant! Lol 🌿 🤓

Good night succulent/cacti fam! 💚
