Can you propogate aloe?

I’ve seen people w aloe and aloe type plants just kinda stick broken pieces in dirt but Its always seemed kinda questionable to me. If it works cool! A lot of propagating is cutting pieces of plants off and sticking it in dirt lol but idk, lmk. Ty!

Yeah that’s the aloe I fell on and flattened 😬. (It wasn’t as high up then)
1ft to light, indirect
10” pot with drainage
Last watered 4 months ago
@SolidGold In my experience no, aloe aren't like most decorative succulents where you grow new babies from a "intact leaf"

Most videos of it are people baiting and so it doesn't workif you want to propagate aloe the best way is through pups, an a good aloe would make many of them,

I'll pass on some knowledge I learned, people who neglect there aloe do seem to have the most thriving ones, as in if you let it do it's own thing and only bi-monthly check in she will do just fine and even reward you with pups

Below is my aloe who I thought wouldn't survive but is giving me a grogueus healthy new pup.

Hope that helps 🌱
@SolidGold It is possible but doesn't guarantee it will happen. Kind of like snake plants. They can take months to grow roots and it's a crap shoot at that. I've done it successfully but not on every single one that I propagated. If you are going to give it a shot make sure the ends are calloused over. However,the best way is through harvesting the pups.
@GardenCat43 thanks! That’s interesting and it does help
@SolidGold
Yes, you can propagate an aloe plant from a leaf cutting, but it's difficult and less reliable than propagating from "pups" (offsets) because aloes have rhizome roots, meaning they often just rot, though some methods increase success by allowing the cut end to callus and planting in well-draining soil. Success often hinges on getting a tiny bit of stem tissue with the leaf or planting it in sandy, well-draining mix and avoiding overwatering.
My aloe has been alive despite neglect for like 10 years lol, when I moved I mangled it so I just kept a few pups it put out, but when I was reading up on it I think to propagate it, you can cut the whole plant in half basically, but it’s risky.
