Plant seed/node scams
A friend of mine didn't mind my advice and is now a victim of buying "plant seeds" that are basically flecks of pepper.
I'm seeing A LOT of "seeds" on various vendors sites, has anyone actually been successful in purchasing seeds?
I steer clear, the reviews tell you to steer clear but just wanted to know if anyone has found an actual vendor. #plantscams #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict

Ugh I know! I feel like esty used to be this place with really cool stuff but now itβs just another drop shipping sludge pit! ESPECIALLY the plants! Ya also btw if a plant needs both sexes to produce berries, seeds, flowers, etc DONT GET SEEDS! I was looking into cloud berries and thankfully it warned me that you canβt tell the sexes when theyβre seeds and also itβs apparently very time consuming! ALWAYS LOOK AT MULTIPLE SOURCES BEFORE YOU LOOK INTO BUYING A PLANT!!!
@HoyaAddict and @PlantyPlanter agreed! I learned a long time ago to not fall for the seeds ploy. And I always do my research. Even found some are from bulb not seed and they were selling seed!
@jcPlantProper all types of seed other than normal fruit and veg. The one she bought was for a succulent that the picture was gorgeous but she didn't look at the reviews that called out the seller. The picture was a different succulent than what the seeds were labeled anyway. I will look more into seeds from the states. I also told her to talk to local greenhouses.
I don't think I've found anyone who has bought legitimate seeds before. That's why I asked the question, seems like the scams are taking over!

@jcPlantProper wowzers that's an amazing site. I love growing from seeds. thanks for sharing.
Personally I buy plants, not seeds. I've only bought a couple of things of Etsy but would rather deal with reputable plant resources. Too many scams and truly evil to those who get scammed π€¬
It does pay to research, I learned the hard way with a "reputable" supplier, reading reviews and word of mouth ensures that plants or seeds we buy aren't a total loss and waste of money π€

I can attest to one amazingly good shop on Etsy, Queen of Succulents. Everything comes carefully and beautifully packaged. The plants and cuttings are in super healthy condition. She offers a gorgeous selection including very rare types. I recently ordered a set of 25 various succulent leaves, but she actually sent me 50! As of now Iβve only lost 5 of them and of the rest 30+ are showing healthy root so far. She also includes a small bonus pup with your order. Delivery was right on time. One of the high quality shops on Etsy. I have ordered since and will definitely order in the future.
Iβve been lucky on Etsy but I always read reviews, you can usually tell if the reviews are legit as well. Also reaching out to the seller and asking questions, even if you know the answer, is a good way to tell if theyβre legit. Are they knowledgeable? Did they respond quickly? Iβve only had one seller not respond but they had good reviews and I got a good cutting from them.
@TruthfulApricot I LOVE that you took the time to arrange the leaves!
@sarahsalith Thanks. They look so cute that way. Iβm going to photograph them in another week or two and post their progress. Hard to see right now. πππ
@PoeticCowslip the florist arrangement is a good idea!β¦
@TruthfulApricot What a pretty rosette you made! Please update us on progress with lots of pics! π
@BeesZenGarden I definitely will! Iβm particularly excited because there are many potential plants here that I donβt have.
@DefiantDndylion Great advice.
@Alkiplants One of those sayings we know but donβt always follow. β€οΈ
@JovialSarcodes πππ Sometimes people get so excited that they donβt reason it out. Itβs a shame because thatβs when the scammers get you. βΉοΈπ‘βΉοΈ
@TruthfulApricot very true
