Rope in the bottom of the pot?
Why is this here? I got the plant last week, had it quarantined while treating for spider mites and managed to wedge the nursery pot out (it was stuck in there) and found this.

@SerenePoisonivy Does it feel organic like a root or is it more man made like a rope or wick material? It could be a self watering system and it could be used to sit inside of a pot with water to keep the soil consistently moist.
@princesspitstop itβs like a piece of yarn, so maybe some kind of self watering setup, then? If I remember correctly rubber trees like to dry out a little bit? (Itβs dry as a bone currently (poor thing was covered in dust bunnies when I picked it up in the store so who knows when it was last watered )
@SerenePoisonivy Yes they do like to dry out. They store water in their thick leaves. It wouldn't be the first time a nursery sold someone a plant in a self watering pot that was not meant to be in a self watering pot. At least it's in good hands now! ππͺ΄π€
@princesspitstop yes! π
I did pick it up at target so Iβm not surprised it wasnβt cared for, I had to use my probe to aerate the soil before watering because it was so hard

@SerenePoisonivy Wow π² Poor guy. I stopped by Walmart earlier and snuck over to the garden center. My neighborhood store has got to be the worst.
@princesspitstop every time I go to Walmart I get so sad when I look at the plants, most of them are wilted and obviously declining. I have gotten lucky and gotten two plants from Walmart that were healthy, but I think I also got them not too long after they arrived at Walmart
@SerenePoisonivy Same. I did once get a Dragon Tree Dracaena for $5 from Walmart! SCORE! βΊοΈ It's hard to find anyone who is knowledgeable about plants working in that department. It rarely happens.
