Repotted begonia

@DreamMachine girl I repotted it but I saw black roots I’m scared. I got a big pot and put a plastic plate in it with two big holes to make it shallow cause I don’t have a shallow pot but I found many black roots and also brown roots.

Brown base idk if it’s supposed to have it
black roots and a brown base indicate root and stem rot. usually occurring when water sits in the pot for too long, and rots the roots and stem. if there are any non black roots left that are not mushy and stinky, chop all of the black mushy ones off, only leaving the healthy firm non stinky and non black ones, and pot in a well draining mix of perlite, orchid bark or coco coir, and potting soil, and ensure that the pot you are using has a drainage hole.
@BlingBling @pricklydude The base looks like a normal begonia, but oh no! the roots. So sometimes soil can just make them look black and brown, since they are very thin, but were they mushy at all? Mushy rotting roots will need to be trimmed off with sterilized scissors and then soak the remaining root ball in a hydrogen peroxide solution.

1 part 3% hydrogen peroxide + 3 parts water and leave in the peroxide mix to soak for 5 minutes this will kill off the remaining bacteria. It will bubble pop and fizz this is good it's killing the bacteria.

If they weren’t mushy, or falling off from a slight tug, it could potentially be fine. In that case, and to be on the safe side I would water your begonia the next time with that same peroxide solution.

I like your creativity in making a shallow pot for her! That’s awesome :)
@DreamMachine Hydrogen peroxide? Don’t have it . Yah it’s not gonna live gg y’all and thank you πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ»
It did have good roots but they sensitive. I also might have messed up the two holes…
