Hints for growing live sphagnum moss

I have just ordered some live sphagnum moss and before it arrives, I just wonder what ways people have found best to grow it (eg grow lights). Appreciate any input, thanks #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #growlights #greggang #amusingmondays #plantlifesavingclub
Morning, from Canada, Seymour,

You're wanting to grow the moss? (Love this!)

If I understood that correctly: I looked into growing moss (to use with my plants but also to add character to outdoor pots and statues) and although I haven't yet followed up, to grow moss, I read to make a moss milkshake-like slurry in a blender and paint it on to the medium (statue, piece of wood etc.). Some people use a whole recipe including flour, yeast and corn syrup -some use beer in place of milk - to help the spores adhere.

I'm south facing, get alot of sun...and moss grows (unbidden) in the damp areas of plant and building shadows.

Since you grow beautiful carnivorous plants, I'm guessing you're a smart cookie and you're already *at least* this far in your research! But, heck, thought I'd share anyway 🙃

Here's hoping you document your method of choice and progress as I'm interested to see how your "project" goes. 🌷
@CorvidFan Wow Elle, I have never heard of a moss milkshake, etc. I have been thinking about live sphagnum moss for a while but it is hard to obtain. So I thought I would grow some for my plants to help with humidity and as a nice feature. But having never tried to grow it before, I best check with the plant gang. I'll have orchids and nepenthes pitcher plants, etc so I figure ideal conditions for sphagnum moss to grow. And if I grow enough, I can then offer some to other plant lovers. I've been also thinking to try growing moss hydroponically...as I saw a photo of someone who added some sphagnum moss to their plants in a LetPot and in 3 months, it covered the whole thing!
Anyway, will have to do something with the moss when it arrives, to at least keep it alive!
Thanks for your interest 🙂
I'll be interested to know if you find the following useful...The article in the link at the bottom includes this passage:

"If you received your sphagnum moss in the mail, it tends to come in a tangled clump of strands. Snip them into smaller pieces – between 1 to 4 inches long – and lay them evenly over the cloth.

Spray the entire area with clean water, until the cloth is consistently moist.

Place the tray inside your propagator. If it has a lid, open it up for a few minutes every day to let fresh air inside.

Make sure your sphagnum moss is set up in a place with plenty of bright indirect light. You can use grow lamps to supplement light levels during the shorter days of winter."

@CorvidFan yes indeed, I didn't even know I should snip them as I don't even know if my moss delivery comes with any instructions (I doubt it, just looks like a bag of moss). I appreciate the link, so kind of you to take the time and effort, and have the interest. I'd sent you some except the freight would be astronomical!🍁
I read to wet it and FORGET it! I have a shoe-box size tupperware full of sphagnum that i haven't checked in forever.... I guess I should? Lol
@HeyLillie Hey Lillie, perhaps but I think it also needs some light to grow...but I like the simplicity of your suggestion, sounds like you have done that if you've never checked it 😉
@Seymour, oh, it's under a grow light.
Oh, OK. Your moss should have grown since you left and forgot it...
