How to know when to snooze

When I go to water my black spleenwort, Greg says the soil should be moist and right now I get reminders to water her every 2 days, but that seems like a lot. I'm not sure when I should snooze it because I know ferns like it nice and wet and humid but idk how wet is too wet.

I say watering every 3-5 days would be best. You have a ceramic pot it seems, so it’ll hold the moisture in, especially since you have a very organic medium!

Don’t want the soil too wet either, or it’ll cause root rot.

What you can do as well is get a wooden pencil or skewer and stick it in the soil. If it comes back up with tons of soil, don’t water. If it comes up with minimal soil, try to eyeball and water where you think the top 2 inches would be (don’t water thoroughly). This is to keep the soil moist at all times, but not wet.

Good luck! 🀞🏽✨🌱
If anything you might want to get a moisture meter to test the soil before watering. But ferns are tough. I haven't ventured to fern-land yet 😬
I purchased a Kangaroo paw fern in early January. The leaves are various shapes, shiny,& very green. It's growing by leaps & bounds. I love mine and highly recommend that type of fern.
