Hi, @RJG! Could you pls add the cultivar, Kalanchoe tome...
I don't see it listed in he database.
Also, check out this pic of full grown plants outdoors in the â Don't they look amazing?! ð
Mine had a rough fall/winter due to pests and weather fluctuations, so they are inside recovering. ð
Thank you! ðŦðž
P. S. Before any iPhone users tell me I can add it myself...
Pls note, Android users do not have that feature! ð

@PlantMompy Same! They also remind me of roasting marshmallows and I expect them to smell toasty but they never do ð
@PlantMompy Right??! ðĨ°
I really want to buy some bigger ones and plant them outside my house with some flapjacks now.
However, establishing them would be tricky...
In my experience, they're temperamental about weather extremes under 45 or over 90 ð
They don't like to be wet too long, so it's hard to treat them for bugs too, it really destroys the protective fuzz - they should have been named 'Chocolate Divas'! ð
I would think you'd have to plant adult plants in early spring here in Southern California in partial shade facing east and pray it doesn't get really hot too soon!

@AstroMind Aren't they gorgeous! ð
Don't worry about the species add - the @gregteam will take care of that on Monday ð

I passed mine on to @YammieOf3 because I just couldn't keep the little guy happy. My son was sad because be really like his Panda Plant! Maybe if he thrives with her I can get a cutting back to try again one day!
These look magnificent! Barely recognizable compared to the sad one I had! ð

@roxyvivien wow those look absolutely beautiful!
@dreamlettuce The common name 'Panda plant' is used both varieties of Kalanchoe tomentosa but Kalanchoe tomentosa 'Chocolate Soldier' is a specific cultivar with a distinctly different brown color on the leaf margins and more narrow leaves.

@roxyvivien ahh I see. You should be able to find it now.
See @roxyvivien Iâve pointed it out to so many but many âveteransâ told me it didnât matter and theyâre just panda plants. I have both and theyâre pretty similar in care so I donât mind it having the ID of panda plant, theyâre both known as it ð
@jaysjungle Hmmm, they usually do well indoors, did you get yours first during the winter?
I've found that they are very picky about cold and humid conditions and it's best to acclimate them to new environments in moderately warm, dry temps.
They also need more water than you think when first getting established and in the hot summers.
If outside they prefer shade when it gets over 85... They are kinda picky (like Bear Paws can be too) but one established they are easy to care for as long as you don't repot them during temps too hot or cold (like I mistakenly did outdoors).
Mine are in 'recovery' now - I'm using the "2, 3, 4 hydration rooting" technique and it's finally given them life again!
Also, if the go dormant in winter (which they will if the temps are consistently 50 degrees or lower at night) I only water them once every 3-4 weeks a little bit, but then in spring through fall it's about every 7-10 days.
*Hope that helps & you can try them again sometime... Once mine recover I can mail you a leaf, they do very well with leaf props! ð

@jaysjungle These are two leaf props of the regular variety which I started over a year ago... One is a much more aggressive grower than the other!
They grow slow at first & have spurts of growth ranomly I seems...
Ignore the chomped leaves! ð(My cat took a bite & then spit it out - thank God, because they are not pet safe!)

@dreamlettuce Yeah, at the end of the day the care is the same, but they look so different and are obviously bred to be! ðŽ
Im just a collector at heart so I like having them listed seperately. ð ðĪ

@gAnderson he will probably look more like this guy, as he's the original Panda Plant Variety... here's mine ð (planted with a Cotyledon 'Happy Young Lady')
