Budew, mine has been a wild ride of learning. ๐คฃ I look at it almost every day and think I should cut it back and start over. I just might after seeing yours.
The hardest part is giving it space and cutting it (because you MUST cut it- it just grows too much).
I've cut mine back twice now. It is on a 6 foot cedar fence board. I have it tied with floral tape, but many of the aerial roots have already grown onto the board ... which is the reason I haven't cut it. (Maybe I'll air layer it to get roots THEN cut it.)
It lost almost all the lower and smaller leaves in February when we lost power for about a week๏ฟผ, but it has kept growing.
I think now that I've lived with it for a year, I'm ready to cut it up and start again.
I used a razor blade to jimmy the roots off the original board. I saw something online where a guy put a plastic baggie with water at the top of the board and poked a pin hole in the back of the baggie ๏ฟผso water would drip out slowly and down the board. The moisture helped the roots adhere to the board. ๏ฟผ
I'm so glad you have one! @Megan has one too, I believe.

@ShinyBudew absolutely gorgeous! ๐ฏ๐ฏ๐๐๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ
@KikiGoldblatt THANK YOU!!! I was so certain she was going to die but she proved me wrong!
@RJG very free and very alive ๐๐๐
@jcPlantProper yup yup I think Iโm gonna repot her after 2 weeks have passed and try my best at giving her a bigger plank! Wish me luck ๐
THIS IS SO COOL!! Please keep me posted! Mine ran out of room @greenie_sprout9) and then I put it on a 6' board and IT RAN OUT OF ROOM. I've cut it a few times but I think I really need to pay more attention to it because it has such unique care needs.
I want to know how you care for it. ๐ I'm so excited for you!
@kscape - look at this! AND Dariana!! The Dubia cutting for you is almost about to root!!

@greenie_sprout9 I have the same question myself I guess just keep propagating????
@sarahsalith HOLY CRAP LOL SO BIG!!! How do you care for yours??
@wolfqueen yesss they look very similar and yours is so cute!!! Actually @LeighannM was gonna trade me a rhaphidophora hayi for one of my babies so Iโll have lots of shingling babies!!!
@cascadianroots thank you!! And get some peanut butter with that jelly! ๐ฅ
@YveO BRUH THAT MUCH??? Where are you based and how big of a plant did you get??? What kinda money you got for a rent for a whole YEAR??? ๐

@Kwanna I was thinking maybe a home improvement store??? But I was debating about a moss pole that I can stack so when it grows I can just add it on rather than take the whole plant off the plank @sarahsalith what would you recommend best for a structure for these to climb on?
@wolfqueen wait- is yours a Siltipicana or a rhaphidophora?
@Kwanna unless you meant plants then in that case I got this one specifically from houseplantshop.com!
@PrimoTauhinu I would think so!!!
@sarahsalith WOW that was so informative, thank you!!! I definitely need to research this baby more! Now the biggest question is should I stick to a board or a moss pole? ๐ค But I guess Iโm in for a ride, for better or for worse! ๐ and whatโs air layering???
@sarahsalith ugh looking at these moss poles, they be way more expensive than I thought, I see why people opt for the board LOL and sides it really showcases the shingling!
@ShinyBudew knowing what I know, I would say board... BUT with a cococoir pole, you can keep adding more. ๐ค That's a good question. (The plant in the first picture is gonna need another cococoir pole!)
A way of air layering is taking some damp spaghnum moss๏ฟผ, folding it around a node on the stem and securing it with plastic๏ฟผ so it retains moisture. In time, roots SHOULD form in the sphagnum moss๏ฟผ๏ฟผ.
๐ค second picture DONE!
Then, theoretically, I could cut the stem below the roots and I can separate the plants.

@sarahsalith ๐ฑ so much knowledge!! Thanks for spreading your brain cells to mine ahaha! Iโll have to see what I can find, cause if a moss pole is unavailable to me, too expensive, or not from a reputable source, then I would opt for the board probably! But I thought that the pole would be easier to remove a cutting when needed ๐ตโ๐ซ decisions decisions!!
Omggggg @sarahsalith excited to see it!
@sarahsalith mine's a R. hayi. Shingle plant through and through. This is my siltipecana. And a closeup of my shingle.
@sarahsalith OMG one can dream to have one like yours someday! And that board is amazing! When Iโm ready to get one, Iโm definitely reaching out to you! โShingle plant whispererโ ๐๐๐
@sarahsalith yours is absolutely gorgeous! Love ๐ it.
@sarahsalith I went to Lowes yesterday for PAINT but there was a R. Hayi discounted to $5 for outgrowing the boardโฆso I โaccidentallyโ bought it ๐๐๐ The real accident was forgetting to buy a new board ๐
@greenie_sprout9 congrats on your find!!!
@ShinyBudew Thank you!!!!!!!!
@PrimoTauhinu that's what mine ended up looking like because I didn't realize how FAST they grow!
