Giving plants milk?

I seen a lot of people adding milk to their plants during the growing season. Wanted to see if anyone here on Greg, has tried it?

I have not tried it, because I see no reason to. But I'm curious if anyone has actually tried it! 🤔 I've even seen other plant apps advertising it on IG!
I certainly hope Greg never starts recommending I give my plants milk! @RJG 😆
That sounds like a wonderful way to end up with a bacterial/fungal infection to me...
@jaysjungle could you imagine… milk day! 💀💀😂
Also, I'm assuming they're doing it for the calcium. Egg shells (cleaned) are great for that. (;
Now, I have followed some terrible advice in hindsight, but highly doubt I would've done or thought of this. But I know people have.
The smell alone 🤮🤮🤮😵😵😵
@tango I would just say Eff it and be done! I'm lactose intolerant and pretty sure my plants are too! 😆 🤣 😂
@jaysjungle @WickedValkyrie @tango @NewGrowth everything I’ve read today about it lol are for gardens, but I seen on instagram like jay said people using it on house plants, I believe “plantberd” was one, but I’m curious to try it at least on one of my plants this spring. Just wanted to see if anyone has tried it and what are the ratios they use, because I don’t believe it’s straight milk.
I believe anything that isn’t water shouldn’t be used to water plants 🤣🤣 but milk? Is it diluted and mixed with water? Other ingredients?

I’ve read (on FB) of people suggesting others to water with vinegar, clear soda, a little dash of liquid detergent (to kill pests??), etc. These people came back a few days later posting about their plants dying.

Never milk 🤣
Lol this is such a weird ad that some of the *other plant apps* put out. Also seen mixing black pepper in the soil and using Mayo as leaf shine. @Kiersten and I love to giggle at these.

For the record there's no reason to water with milk. Or add black pepper to your soil. Or to use Mayo as leaf shine. @jaysjungle @dreamlettuce @tango @WickedValkyrie @NewGrowth
@RJG @dreamlettuce I’ve heard of so many - rice water, banana water, Epson salt in water lol the MILK though has me wondering 💭 from the video it looks diluted. So I think I’m going to try it 25/75 and see what’s happens, I’ll get a plant from the dying shelf at Walmart or Lowe’s and give it a go.
I’ve used milk In the garden diluted to get rid of white spots on zucchini or squash type leaves. It does work but that’s outside in a large garden on big leaves. I’ve been gardening for many years before I started caring for houseplants so I’ve tried all kinds of garden tricks. I’m not sure I’d use any of those on my indoor plants tho.
@Vjunc I use epson salt often in the garden. Diluted milk too. But never tried it on anything indoors. I’ve seen banana water but never personally tried that one.
@KDkat3 yes everything I’ve read so far said for gardening and farmers using it. I’ll still try it, I. Trying to find the video of the lady using it but everyone has like 1000 plus videos and I can’t locate it 😭😭
I never heard of it 😅 but reading up about it after a google search, it seems intriguing 🥲 I’m not sure I’d try on one of my plants personally, since I have a fertilizer/ plant food made for plants. I could see how something with some type of minerals would be more beneficial than water with no nutrients, but perhaps it won’t beat out a plant food made specifically for plants 🤔😅
@RJG it really is! But I try not to laugh too hard (just roll my eyes 😅) because there are SO many weird old wives tales and "my grandmother did this" all over the place it's wild man!
I've used banana water. Soak some peels in a jar of water for about 10 days. It seemed to give the plants a boost.

@jaysjungle oh geez 😅 that’s another reason haha
Let me tell you a little story about milk and root rot…
@MsPlantAlot my mom had my grandmothers variegated spider plant. It used to be table centerpiece, steal the show huge when grandma had it. But she had a huge window that faced south and it got tons of light on the dining room table in that space. My mom put it near a west facing window and near a drafty door, in Iowa, all year long. Not enough sun, not a great consistent temp, and generally declining. What do I suggest? Milk. That poor 12 leaf spider plant was pale, droopy, and begging for help. The app said MILK so she added diluted milk. Twice. By the time she let me take it home to rescue it, it barely had enough good root left for me to rescue. The root rot was real, there was a huge white wormy critter alive living in the roots, and it smelled SO bad. Do NOT give your plants milk.
@MsPlantAlot lol after reading this I may not try it!
I’ve given my plants rice water just because I soak the rice before making it and I hate to throw it away. I don’t know if it’s helped but it hasn’t harmed! Usually it my hibiscus that gets it because it’s the closest plant when I’m making rice 🤷🏻‍♀️
@MsPlantAlot and don't use that app 😂😂😂
@RJG yes, this was before I found Greg!
