Whatβs wrong with my graptopetalum?
My graptopetalum has been doing this weird thing where the leaves (like one at a time) will shrivel at the very ends, and turn slightly yellow and then just fall off. It started with the mother plant (the bigger stalk) and now has started to one of the smaller ones (the pup). The plant is watered normally, I havenβt overwatered to my knowledge, and hasnβt had any changes other than a repot a month or two ago. I watered it thinking maybe it just needed water but itβs still doing it. I really donβt want to loose the plant but donβt know what could be causing it, once the leaf has started shriveling and yellowing I usually remove the leaf, but it will just start on another leaf and now itβs started on my pup. I donβt want to loose this plant !! I donβt think this is a natural dropping of leaves because itβ never has done this and has always been happy and never dropped leaves previously. #succulent #Succulents #Graptopetalum #SucculentSquad #helpneeded

It could be that it is going dormant due to the heat. Graptos need morning sun and afternoon shade once the temps are over 75Β°F. It could be powdery mildew and it needs treatment (high humidity and improper ventilation can cause this). This is also a way for the plant to reproduce more plants and fill in the pot. Some leaves will survive and establish themselves while others will not. If itβs in a ceramic pot and is spending time out in the sun or at a sunny window, it may be that you are baking the roots and itβs crying for you to move it. All of my plants remain in shade because of the temperatures here. Evaporation happens quickly and once they go dormant, they are lightly watered but it can be 1-2 months before they are watered; this is dependent of the pot size and his much sun they get.
Maybe @stephonicle can help? I suck with those lol
I've had the same issue with certain Graptopetalum, where leaves suddenly start shriveling up & it's definitely NOT an issue of the oldest ones dying off. I'm pretty sure it was powdery mildew with one of them, but they have such thick farina it's hard to say for sure. Sorry, I wish I had a better answer for you! π₯Ί My only advice is to remove several healthy leaves for propagation, just in case things don't improve (but I really hope they do!) π₯°
You are not alone! Iβve had this happen a couple times & at the moment my Opalina is doing the same.. common denominator is repotting π§ maybe they are stressed from the repot & takes longer for the roots to properly establish? I have noticed repotting the ones that have babies will do this, like itβs drinking up the leaves cause thereβs an issue with&/ or itβs working on its roots. It seems to slow down if I donβt prematurely take the wilted leaf off.. Idk this is just a guess & sorry itβs happening to that beauty π
@Artistic_Stoner @stephonicle both of you guys have very good helpful insight! So thank you !! I will just keep an eye on it ! Hopefully it will get better
@TidyTigerpear yes maβam no problem, sending green love π
@Artistic_Stoner @stephonicle good news , I moved my graptopetalum in a more shaded spot, and it seems to be doing better already. It doesnβt seem to have been dropping any leaves so far and the yellowing has for sure slowed down tremendously!
@TidyTigerpear Thank you for that update, Iβm going to try & move one thatβs been giving me those problems.. so glad your graptopetalum is doing better π€
