Airplant separation?

My airplant has a baby that has gotten bigger to the point eventually, (here soon)
I may want to try to separate it… what would be the best way to go about that?
It’s pretty snug (well attached) to the mother airplant currently, so I’m kinda assuming it’s not quite ready yet. As it gets bigger I would imagine it’ll be easier to detach, when it’s ready? Does anyone have any experience with this? And is there a better way to separate them? Like would I use my hands to wiggle it off? Or surgically remove it? πŸ˜‚ #AirPlant #airplants #PlantAddict #help #Question #division #GregGang

@TidyTigerpear Hi Kaitlyn, I do not claim to be an airplant pro, but they will just separate with a slight tug. I do wait though until they are about the same size! When they get that big, sometimes I have seen them separate themselves! Good Luck!πŸͺ΄πŸ€
@Ponytailmom thank you so much! That sounds like what I was thinking to begin with, but I wasn’t sure and didn’t want to rush it, and chance killing it or damaging it πŸ˜πŸ˜…
@TidyTigerpear I just pulled one of mine away accidentally this morning! To be honest it freaked me out a little it that it came away so easily! It’s a good size tho! I didn’t realize it was so big by itself! My Medusahas a good sized one too! And this other guy, I don’t know its name, but I love how velvety it is! I have all kinds of babies! I just love my air plants! So easy to care for them! Have a wonderful Sunday afternoon! πŸͺ΄πŸŒΊ
@TidyTigerpear @Ponytailmom Do you find hanging them pushed out the babies quicker than setting in a structure ? I’m not even sure how long it takes them to procreate ? I have heard after they flower is when this happens ?? Any insight ladies ? All of them are beautiful 😍
@ILoveMyPlants I have only ever hung them, so I don’t know! I know that they do when they hang! I hope you get some babies soon! πŸͺ΄πŸŒΊ
It's so nice to see pictures and learn from people on Greg! Do air plants like sun? Do they need to be misted & if so how often? Inquiring minds need your help!
@ILoveMyPlants my grandma actually gifted the airplant so im not 100% of its history, but as far as I know, it didn’t flower before this, but the baby was very small when I first got it. But I’ll update yall if it does anything else!
@Ponytailmom omg you look like an airplant pro although you don’t claim to be! πŸ˜‰
So many babies!!! What’s your secret ?
@PrimeChinarose they do like bright filtered direct light I think. I have mine in a mostly very sunny window except during winter. I don’t mist them, but I turn them upside down and half way submerge them in water
@TidyTigerpear @Ponytailmom thanks much for the tips . I was under the assumption that they had to flower before producing pups πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Gosh I wish I could find the post or maybe you both saw it . A woman had a slew of them hanging on a wood piece on her wall it was amazing and trying to count the pups was like Where’s Waldo . Mine have grown quite a bit but no sight of pups yet .
@TidyTigerpear I soak them upside down in distilled water with airplant fertilizer once every 10 days! I leave them soaking for 30 min to an hour, longer if I forget about them! They can only hold so much water so they will stop taking it in when they are full- then I take them out and let them dry upside down on a towel. I put them in bright filtered light during the day and some are under a bright grow light too. But they get light for 10-12 hours a day. That’s it! Soak em and let them dry! they will love u for it!πŸͺ΄πŸŒΊ
@ILoveMyPlants I have too many pups to count right now too! I just love them! Be gentle when handling them and if you have the ones with the white looking velvet like stuff on their skin try not to touch it too much! They don’t like that! 😁
