Is this scale or edemaπ€
Iβm going to go ahead and just tag @SuperbRaspfern
Running around the house doing plants chores and noticed a few of these bumps on my sop.
Did some Reddit research and I believe it might be edema but want some second opinionsπ
Very happy otherwise so hopefully I just waited to long to waterπ #PestControl #edema #StringOfPearls

It looks like edema, not scale.
On String of Pearls, edema shows up as those firm, slightly translucent bumps, basically the plant cells swelling from taking up water faster than they can use it. Scale, on the other hand, would look like hard, dry, shell like bumps that you can flake off with a fingernail. Your plant looks happy overall, and the bumps match edema more than pests. It usually happens when watering after a dry spell or when roots suddenly get more moisture than usual. Nothing to panic about, just adjust watering a bit and it should grow out of it!

@AridRunner thank you for your response! Thatβs what I was thinking since I have been dealing with a little bit of a gnat issue and have kind of been simulating a droughtπ
Now that Iβve got the gnats under control Iβve gone back to semi regular watering and it mustβve been to much to soon.
Panic mode is always first thought unfortunately but Iβm getting there slowly lol.

Hey Brenna! π©· I just looked at your string of pearls. Good news, there is no scale or pests.
About the watering, just feel the balls if they are firm don't water. If they are starting to get soft and have some give, go ahead and give her a drink.
Now the way to tell if it's edema. Does she drop pearls when you touch her? If so, then yes it's edema and the start of her healing and forming her callous.
These do tend to be one of the more fragile succulents. So, they do bruise is handled a bit roughly or bumped. Another thing that can cause some damage that can look like that is big fluctuations in temps. Next to the window it could be that.
She's a pretty one. She looks great on your windowsill. This should help you narrow down the cause. If you need any other help don't hesitate to reach out. I do like to tell people that I am busy out here on the farm so it can take me a while. But if I see a notification, I will always respond when I can. π©·
Right now I'm just snuggling a hurt baby chick before I put the other chickens away for the night. π©·

@SuperbRaspfern itβs actually entirely healthy otherwise, the pearls are not fragile and are actively growing. This is my second go around with sop and Iβm finally feeling confident in my care abilities, but this gave me a little fright π (my knowledge of pests and diseases is next to nothingπ¬)
I did just move it from an east facing window sill to a south facing window sill so it definitely could just be getting warmer temps in the afternoon that itβs being dramatic about! Thank you!
Also, very adorable baby chick, I hope to be able to just snuggle a chick on a Wednesday night and that it feels better poor thingπ₯Ή
