Ficus help
Hello plant people πͺ΄ my variegated ficus is both declining and improving at the same time: itβs been struggling a lot for months and now itβs putting out new leaves from the top and the stem! However, younger leaves are falling down after they get this pinky dot pattern.. any idea abt the issue? Here attached plant photos and the last fallen leaf π #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #Ficus

Hi @EatMoreVeggies π I love the variegated ficus! They have such pretty leaves πππ€ππ©·. Iβd say yours looks like a combo of inconsistent watering, perhaps underwatering and then making up for it by giving it too much water. Then the water sits at the bottom of the pot, the roots canβt get air properly and root rot sets in. Check the roots, slide her out of the pot and see if there are brown mushy roots. If so youβll need to remove them and repot in fresh well draining soil. The leaves with the spots have edema, too much water made some of the leaf cells burst causing the lighter parts of the leaf to turn reddish pink eventually turning brown. The lighter parts have less chlorophyll so theyβre more fragile than the green parts. Watering more consistently will help avoid this. Good news is itβs trying to produce new leaves, yay! And you should be able to get her through this just fine ππ
