How are these roots? I looked at the roots for the first...

#StringOfPearls
2” pot with drainage
Last watered 2 months ago
More info: When I first got it, it was from an outdoor festival during a downpour so she was soaked. I let it dry completely before watering again. After getting over swelling from the rain, the pearls were more deflated but not too bad. When I came back from the holidays she was quite thirsty, because my roommate forgot to give her water, but came back a little after a drink.
Overtime the pearls keep shrinking though and now are extremely deflated. No amount of watering seems to be working. I wait until the soil is dry before the next watering (usually around 2 weeks) after making the mistake of overcompensating and watering more often than that when I saw the shrinkage happening.

It's been about 5 months since my overwatering tirade, so I thought I'd see some improvement by now. Should I clip anything? Get a root stimulator? Repot in some different succulent soil? I'm not too sure now
While SOPs typically have slower growing roots than other house plants, you should still be able to make out primary and secondary roots, especially for a plant that should’ve been growing for 6+ months.
It does seem to have root rot. When the plant no longer has secondary roots they can’t absorb water, leading the pearls to shrivel like shown. They need a lot of sun and minimal watering.
What I’ve learned is that when Greg tells you to water, check the soil, if it’s not so dry it’s almost splitting from the pot I don’t water. They’re finicky and they catch root rot quicker than any other plant I’ve had.

The good thing is that these plants are so easy to propagate! Cut em down, plop the stems into the soil and cover them up a little, add some humidity and you should have a rooting plant in a week or two!
Good luck on your SOP journey🀞
Oh and root rot spreads, once you get it you have to chop the dead roots down and I spray the healthy ones with a little bit of alcohol to kill bacteria before repotting!
I think your issue may be soil type and not enough light. They can handle an occasional overwater IF they are in extremely porous soil. What were they in?
