What's going on with this rogue root?

Monsteras tend to grow thick roots called aerial roots. They use them to not only support themselves as they get bigger, but to also take in more water and nutrients.
A lot of monstera start on the forest floor, when they find something for themselves to attach to (like a tree)- they start to climb. As they climb they use those Aerial roots to now support the nutrients to the climbing leaves.
Itβs funny because your monstera seems to be producing an air root. Which is an aerial root, but specially this root isnβt looking for dirt- it wants to be exposed to air. They actually arenβt really beneficial to the plant π they kind of just sit in the air waiting for something.

I highly recommend putting your monstera on a support pole or moss pole. They get really big as they think they are climbing a tree! And the sooner the better as the plant is juvenile.
Iβve attached photos of my monstera deliciosa on a moss pole for reference. You canβt see it, but the Aerial roots grew THROUGH and up the back of the moss pole. Which then branches out even more tiny roots. Therefore creating basically another root system providing everything the plant needs (at an even higher level).
As you can see, my plant had 2 small leaves with no fenestrations. Once it got to the moss pole- it pushed out a MASSIVE leaf. And then its first fenestrated one. And now itβs pushing out another fenestrated leaf that will be bigger than the previous one.
You donβt HAVE to use a moss pole or support pole to get these results. But it definitely helps and speeds up the process!
