Thrips?
I have two philodendron squamiferum plants. Of course, I found the best-looking one with some weird damage in the leaves. I've sprayed it down with insecticidal soap, but I just wanted to double check. Is this what thrip damage looks like? #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #philodendron #pestcontrol

@wolfqueen Hello Philli! Do you have any pets? It looks like physical damage to me. Like itβs been rubbed on over and over. Maybe a dog or a cat?πͺ΄πΊ
@Ponytailmom, hello.
No, no pets at this time. That's why it's so weird. I thought maybe it was the grow lights, but so many of the other leaves aren't affected.

Thrips (if thats what ur dealing with), takes a 6-wk treatment to get rid of so spraying w/anything once isnt gonna get u anywhere! If u r certain its thrips, u must collect all plants affected; spray each leaf top & bottom, stem & soil w/mixtur of Neem Oil & plant-safe soap (i use Castile Soap); this must be done 3x per week for 6 weeks to ensure thrips r eradicated. It sounds like u dont incubate ur new plants when u bring them home. If so, that can prevent many issues & pests, this one esp.! Pests & thrips for sure, will always go for the sweet nectar first so tip #1 if u bring a plant home w/any blooms, cut them off immediately (they will come again)! Thats how i encountered my dreaded βthrips tripβ! By the time i had it figured out, i had 3 plants involved so that was 3 plants, sprayed as above 3 times per week for 6 weeks; use the treated water for ur watering during this time as thrips (as any other pest hide anywhere they can). Mine began w/my new Peace Lily. I was excited as she came w 3 blooms!! That, sadly sealed my fate & because i got her from a reputable nursery farm (as if pests pay attn to the βKEEP OUT ALL PESTSβ sign at the gate, lol. U need to examine each leaf of the first plant u suspect, then any she came in contact w/recently, most esp any w/blooms. What ur looking for is a pin-prick hole in a bloom & it can be anywhere (like an injection point, difficult to find)!! If u determine its thrips, u must follow the treatment i outlined above without exception (trust me, i know what a pain it is!) the pests themsleves r hard to detect so please dont wait until the pest itseof is visible to the naked eye. If u dont have a lighted magnifying glass, get one. If u need any further assistance i am here and sadly i know all too well how to help!! But either way, whether u have them or any other pest, PLEASE start to quarantine any new plants u bring into ur home as u dont know their journey getting there or what pesky things they may have encpuntered on the way. If u do thos for 4 weeks and find nothing w/frequent exams using ur magnifying glass (& look everywhere)!! Pretend its a Highlights βFind the Hidden whateverβ lol. I promise u will be happy u took the time on the front end to save ur time, money & sometimes sanity (truly), by avoiding dealing w/pests once theyve invaded ur home!!! Im sorry to he so dire but i just want u aware how important this is and also save u from what i went thru!!! Good luck & dont hesitate to reach out should u need anyrhing!!π«Άπͺ΄πΏπ±βοΈ
