Root rot or water deprived?

My Christmas cactus’ leaves are thin and paler than usual. They were nice and plump how they should be and a deep green. I have been afraid of root rot so haven’t watered in a while. Is it root rot finally showing or does it just need watered? Oh let me update the photo 😅 that was from like a year or two ago. It’s in a plastic pot with drainage holes and a tray underneath it

It is also sitting in front of a southern window. Is that too much light? It’s been doing fine in a southern window for quite a while.
