Window treatment/plant styling ideas?
Hey y'all! I'm hoping you can help me figure out how to make my plants and my interior design get along better in my bedroom. This is my current plant/window setup on my dresser - I've got a small peace lily (my root rot survivor lady!), a peperomia caperata 'burbella,' and a peperomia caperata 'Brasilia.' They all sit about a foot away from the actual window, which is a western exposure. I would like to replace the blinds with curtains (sheers for daytime and privacy ones for night time) but am not sure if that would be wise, light-wise for these plants? I also have this string of hearts that I would like to have hanging by this window instead of in my kitchen. I have a swivel hook that I could use to hang her on the wall next to the window or I could use an s-hook to drop her from the curtain rod if I swap out the window treatments. Thoughts from the peanut gallery? #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #texasgreggang #northtexasgreggang #plantstyling
I have used curtains in my windows in the past (theyβre not up yet in my new place), and I have had no trouble with them! Worst case scenario, you could tie a loose knot in one side to allow the sun to reach your plants, but with sheers, I doubt youβd have to.
I would imagine the hanging pot will probably do better if you put it on the swivel hook. That way, it wonβt interfere with the curtains when youβre opening or closing them. Thatβs really up to you, though!

@ESylvanus my only concern with the swivel hook is if it will be sufficient to get the plant well and truly in front of the window, since SOH loves good light. I thought about a setup like this possibly, or using a double curtain rod setup with one rod for curtains and one for hanging plants? I don't *need* there to be sheers I just don't know how well the peperomias and peace lilies would do without at least a bit of filter for the sunlight? Unless they are probably okay since they're about a foot back and on the south end of the dresser so it is the "shadier" end of the western window. I know my husband will demand at least some sort of privacy/blackout curtains cuz we have neighbors behind us and small yards π
@RelentlessZebra I totally get that! And it sounds like you have a good plan to accommodate hanging it from the rod, so I would say go for it! It sounds like it will look great either way, so getting the best light for the plant is the way to go π
@RelentlessZebra I like sheer Window coverings for the bedroom. For two reasons one for privacy, second your plants will love the indirect sunlight. But please donβt ask me about hanging plants Iβm vertically challenged therefore I detest them, so much from this Peanut π₯π
ππ€£π Oh one more thing I donβt use black out curtains instead I use a black out eye mask π₯½ works great (but I live alone!)
