New pot too big?

My Monstera is doing very well but I’ve been thinking about repotting it, as the current pot seems to be getting a bit too small. However, I only have one pot at the moment that’s significantly larger than the current one. Would that be bad for it and should I get a medium-sized pot instead or will she be able to deal with it? #Monstera
7ft to light, indirect
5” pot with drainage

@LadyCeline Hi CΓ©line you are correct in thinking that the white pot is too big for your Monstera right now. When repotting, the standard is to only go up in pot size 1-2 inches larger than the root ball. It is very possible for a plant to look large on top of the soil yet have a small root system therefore needing a smaller pot. The problem with having a pot too large for the plants root system is that the soil would not dry out fast enough due to the plants roots not being able to drink all of the water a larger pot could hold eventually causing root rot. Roots of any plant require air to breathe. If wet soil is compacted around the roots the plant is basically drowning. So if Moni doesn't look like she's struggling in her current pot with roots trying to push their way out of the bottom or if the pot looks like more roots than soil/substrate I would leave her where she is or like I said only go up 1-2" in pot size. She's beautiful by the way and looks like she's grown a lot from her first picture! You're doing a great job! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
@princesspitstop I agree with the princess πŸ˜‰. Something I sometimes do if I don’t have the right size pot on hand is use old containers like sour cream, put holes in them. and use them as nursery pots. Then you could sit the nursery pot inside your pretty white pot. That said it really doesn’t look stressed. Taking a peek at the roots would let you know for sure.
@Just1More πŸ₯° I guess that makes you the Queen πŸ‘‘β€οΈπŸ˜ ooooh yes! Agree πŸ‘ Ever since I got a soldering iron nothing is safe!! Haha
@princesspitstop Thank you very much for your detailed reply. Now I understand why the right pot size is important. And yes, I’m quite proud of Moni πŸ₯°. I got her as a cutting a year ago and she's growing really well. She's just getting two new leaves ☺️. So perhaps I’ll wait a little longer before repotting her.
@Just1More Thanks for the idea, I hadn't even thought of using something like this as a nursery pot. But yes, perhaps I’ll wait a bit longer before repotting her, she seems to be doing very well at the moment :).
