Best hanging plants for a southern porch?

I’m making my porch cute and comfy, what would be your choice for a hanging planter? #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #PlantTherapy #NewPlantMom #PlantCorner #OutdoorGrowing #porchgarden #outdoorgardens #outdoorplants @Artistic_Stoner @Charli3Plant @FairyFly @planthoe40 @princesspitstop @TidyTigerpear @

Any "string of" succulents, but especially the more plump ones like string of watermelons would do great in a south-facing porch! String of Rubies too. Also Tradescantia pallida (Purple Heart) and any variety of Tradescantia zebrinaβ€”their purple coloring is gorgeous and becomes even more intense with plenty of direct sun πŸ€“
Tradescantia pallida and zebrina in hanging planters ☺️
@stephonicle I love these succulents! I always wanted to get them but was scared to kill them for some reason… I actually have one tradescantia zebrina - will put it outdoors, it does not feel well in any of my indoor spots
Thanks for the pictures, it’s time to visit farmers market:)
I would like something to hang right there!
Variegated Spider plant on shaded side of porch
@Artonina they're one of the easiest plants! They just need lots of direct light and for their soil to dry out between waterings (they're drought tolerant like succulents). They're my favorite type of plant! I have something like 38 different varieties or something crazy lol. They're also the easiest plant to propagate, you never have to prop in water first. They root so fast you can just stick the cuttings right back in soil.

I'm sure your zebrina will love being outside on that porch! Can't wait to see pics of what it looks like halfway through the summer πŸ˜›
@NikkiBplantmom great advice!
Golden pothos or any pothos where there is indirect sunlight
Snow queen marble pothos majula pothos & pearls n jade pothos
Zebrina and pink paradise tradescantia
@Charli3Plant it’s a west facing porch, it’s in shade until 4-5 pm; I’m in the south, NC (Durham)
The president of our orchid society had orchids before he moved to Nevada. He said they did so well in the South! Hope they will for you too!! πŸͺ΄πŸ¦‹πŸœπŸžπŸŒ»πŸ„
@ZestyWhiteghost wow, never thought of orchids! Will check that out
@NikkiBplantmom Pink Paradise is one of my favorite zebrina varieties! It constantly flowers 🌺 πŸ˜›
Monkey plant
(Ruellia makoyana) and fuscia aumutnale
@JubilantTearose so pretty!
I love my monkey tail cactus as a hanging plant, but I also have an elephant bush that used to be in a hanging pot(it got too big), baby sun roses, & Hoyas I’d say are lovely to hang ! If you want a waterfall type look, I found a sedum pack at Walmart, had old rain boots & made a fairy garden with random stuff around my home, I’m obsessed with how it hung & grew out of the boot 🀭
@Artistic_Stoner I love how elephant bush falls over! And I already have it! I will report it in a hanging basket then. I see Angelina sedum in your picture, this one is easy to find and it grows like crazy- another wonderful idea, thank you
@Artonina It was humbling to be tagged & asked for any ideas ☺️ Even better you already have an elephant bush! The sedums sure do grow like crazy, just pruned a bunch & have so many I am running out of places to replant them πŸ˜… Be sure to post pictures of your porch oasis, can wait to see how you have everything set up ☺️
@Artistic_Stoner I will share the picture of the results for sure:) I remembered that you have a big lovely collection so I was sure you have a good idea for my situation. Thanks for telling me about baby sun roses, I’d like to get this plant - really like the way they look
@Artonina thank you for thinking of me & my temperamental succulents! Baby sun roses were one of my first plants, & remains one of my favorites. Relentless, adorable constant blooms, heat & drought tolerant(at least in FL), & there is 4 variety of flower color. I see them at HD & Lowe’s a lot, usually in hanging pots too! Looking forward to seeing the end result, good luck & have fun πŸ₯°
Monkey tail cactus. I want on sooo bad
