Personally Iβd plant it in the ground, I planted around 8 new Japanese maples this spring and theyβve done a lot better out of the pot. We put them in ground and gave them their βteaβ and theyβve done great since.. some even get full sun. But if you want to keep it in a pot, Iβd definitely upgrade your pot so your roots can spread. You probably want to do anywhere from 15 gallon to a twenty to start out, make sure you fill it to the top and really spread out your roots so they can grab things. Remember that roots grow outward not necessarily downwards.. so water in a circle around the tree, so it only takes in as much water as it needs at a time. Helps prevent root rot.. One last thing, if you plant in ground, water your tree for about ten minutes once a week for deep watering youβll want to do that for three seasons, after that the tree is fully established and will work on just growingβ¦ π₯°πͺ΄ hope that helps, let me know
Are you planning on potting it in the ground or are you planning on keeping it in a pot? It looks pretty healthy but fox farm has a great Japanese maple βteaβ mix you basically mix with water, let the mix and water sit a day, then water your beautiful baby! Otherwise, Japanese maples are pretty resilient to most things, while they are slower growing they do large and have pretty good rooting systems.. you want to let it dry a little on the top between watering and deep watering in summer and growing times, it likes morning sun, and then when it gets hot shade or indirect light. (Brighter) the colors will be more intense depending on soil conditions and lighting.. but what are your concerns??
