Yikes! Do you know if the roots are stil alive?
Make sure that the soil gets fully soaked when you water. Hydrangeas like moist soil all the time. It should be put in a pot with a drainage hole so that the roots don’t get too soaked. If they get too wet for a long period of time you’ll get a case of root rot. You can put compost on the soil around the hydrangea to help keep some of the moisture in.
If the roots are still good I suggest giving it a really good trim. And give it a really really good water and sunlight. Keep at it and it might come back! They can be resilient
It should come back. Had this happen to my hydrangea last year. left for a vacation for a few days and the plant dried out. It was just a bunch of bald twigs.

Gave it some good watering and lots of bright light. Cut back the dead and dry stems up top. Made sure to not let the soil dry out completely. It’s recovering. It took a while though.

If your roots are even remotely functional it should bounce back.

All the best
