Philodendron yellowing
Hey everyone, I have a question.
My philodendron burle, Iβve posted her before, is starting to get these yellow leaves: sheβs getting new ones, the bigger ones are like the pic below are turnings. #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #Philodendron #TheThread #TheWateringHole #PhilodendronBurleMarx

Hi Sherri π yellow leaves can be from too much, harsh sun, overwatering, or pests. Is it getting direct sun in that window? If so, you might want to move it to where it gets bright indirect sun, or maybe put some kind of a curtain to help keep the sun off the leaves. If they are bottom leaves, thatβs the plant growing and you can cut them off (sterile scissors!), - yellow leaves wonβt recover so cut them off so the plant can focus on new growth. Our Texas sun might be too much for it- especially after 2-3pm. If you feel the soil and itβs wet- donβt water until the top 2-3 inches of soil is dry. I donβt have a Burke but all of my Philos are in really good draining soil I mix myself and they get a little drink once a week to 10 days (all outside in the shade).
If she's putting out new healthy leaves and these are primarily the oldest leaves at the bottom, I agree with @SillyPlantGirl that they're likely dying off as part of the plant's normal growth cycle. I know you've been hyper vigilant about pests since your unfortunate episode with thrips, but this doesn't look like pest damage to me π I'd just keep an eye out for any new yellowing leaves elsewhere on the plant (besides the oldest ones at the bottom). Once they're fully yellow with no remaining green, you can go ahead and cut them off since they're no longer able to photosynthesize and provide energy for the plant.
