What do you think @stephongreg …?
I’m still trying to figure out what Tradescantia variety I have here, and I’m thinking it might be a ‘Gold Wing’:
https://tradescantia.uk/cultivar/tra-aurea/
It did have white flowers when it bloomed. What do you think Steph?

@debbiedo I don’t know what kind it is because I’m terrible at caring for Tradescantia. It sure is pretty though and such a vibrant green color.
@Shells_Garden Thank you Michelle 💚 I love how bright it is too!
@debbiedo hey Deb! So, I don't want to freak you out, but my first thought looking at it was that the leaves looked quite mottled...as in possibly thrips-damage mottled 🫣 Some varieties have leaves that are more wavy, but I thought I should mention it just in case. I'd definitely get in there with a magnifying glass and check undersides of leaves for black specks and tops of leaves for tiny moving cream-colored dots (one of their larvae stages). They'll often congregate in the rolled up tips of new growth. You can also shake the plant or gently tap the tips over a sheet of paper or a sticky trap and then inspect that. Fingers crossed that's not the case! 🤞
As for the ID...when it flowered, where the blooms all white except for yellow anthers? The growth doesn't really resemble the fluminensis species (Aurea). It could maybe be zebrina var. flocculosa? If you have more pics that might help with narrowing it down 🥰

@stephongreg Thanks Steph! You mentioned thrips before, but I’ve never seen any sign of them. 🤞🏻 As for the flowers, let me find the pic I posted previously…
@stephongreg Not the best pic, but the flowers were all white except for the yellow antler, I think?
@debbiedo the flowers do look more like Aurea, but the mottled green leaves and compact growth are throwing me off 🤔 It's hard to tell in the pics, but are the leaves solid light green/greenish yellow or do they have faint mottled stripes?
I've circled a few areas I thought might be thrips larvae when I zoomed in. The curling of the newest growth and overall wrinkly texture of the leaves were the first things that made me think it might be thrips. If you're able to notice any dots like this, see if you can tell if they're moving or not ☺️

@stephongreg I’ll definitely inspect more carefully when I get home! @DreamMachine would you please share the link of the exact phone microscope you got?
@debbiedo @stephongreg oh yes!
I *love* this one because it’s only powered on when you attach it to your phone. So no batteries or recharging necessary. You take pictures and videos and can instantly share and save to your phone. Unlike that previous one I tried, that had to be connected to a computer/laptop and then downloaded (and neither my computer nor my laptop even recognized it as a device 😑)
Your phone is the viewer, so no squinting through a viewfinder!
And I do recommend the stand, it’s the only thing that gets me steady clear shots ☺️
USB Digital Microscope, 50x-1600x... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F9XFF5NJ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

@DreamMachine
Nadia...you're such a scientist...I've gotta have one of those microscopes.
I ordered it as soon as I followed your link. 😊 Thank you.
I got the stand with it too! 😂

@WormWarriorFarm ooh, you will LOVE it! I have tried many types before I finally settled on this one.
Also acceptable is a good old school 🔬 but here you don’t need to mess with slides. (plus I had to give it back to my daughter 😅)
