Repot help. I am so upset.
Hey yall, happy new year. Iβd done some repotting and this keeps happening to me. It makes me feel so stupid and upset. Great thriving plants look like sh!T after a repot and start dying.
The two main ones are the gorgeous neon pothos and my newest #Alocasia (and yall know how I feel about my beloveds).
I know roots werenβt damaged. Went up only 2β or less in pot size. Use my chunky mix and #deathbycinnamon. Keep them out of the grow light for a week and watered immediately. Keep bottom watering since thatβs what theyβre used to.
But it feels like almost every repot I do, the plant practically dies and loses a ton of leaves in the process. Iβm gonna end up with trauma if I donβt figure this out! π±βοΈβ€οΈ Thanks for your ideas. #help #RepotSeason

2ft to light, indirect
3β pot without drainage
Last watered 1 year ago
@PoisedAlbo thanks. Iβm so upset. Makes me feel like all my planty intuition is wrong! Damn, you wouldnβt think a silly little pothos could make me question my value as a human being π₯Ί and as you can see itβs not *just* the drama queens. Itβs the easy going plants too! Thank you for helping me.
I give them good light and a decent but on the lighter side water after re potβ¦. And usually from the top because the roots have been disturbed but I let it drain wellβ¦.. but I only keep my alocasia in Pon so those do bottom water. I did my Albo pothos 2 days ago and so far heβs fine. π€·ββοΈ
@RealSimpleMama Hey girl. I totally can't assist you with the Alocasia because, well, it's an Alocasia. They are my Kryptonite. Your Pothos though. Just by the looks of it she looks over-watered. I know that's probably ridiculous but just by observing. The soil it's in looks really chunky. Is that just orchid bark on top of a succulent soil? Please don't stress. Your plants can pick up on that. We're going to figure this out. π
@princesspitstop hey no thatβs my chunky mix. I think I did panic and overwater her when she looked like shit right after repotting. GAH
I took three cuttings from her today in case she doesnβt make it. I feel nauseous π«£

@captainstardust damnit Iβm so sorry. My only guess is like @PoisedAlbo said I didnβt time the watering right. (I used to repot and not water them immediately so theyβd die from that. Then I fixed that but I still have a lot to learn.)
@RealSimpleMama Awe girl yeah she was probably just in shock. There is still a lot of green on it. It should be fine. You'll just have to cut it back. You can also wrap the bald stems around the top of the pot and put some soil over the top and they will grow roots from the nodes directly into the pot. It will make the pot fuller. Once they root they will start vining again.
@RealSimpleMama Check this out. I listen to the South Texas Gardening podcast on Spotify anyway he was saying that water propagation isn't the best way to propagate because the roots that the plant grows in water are different than the roots it grows in soil so once you take the plant out of the water and plant it in soil it still has to grow its soil roots. He said that it's better to propagate in wet perlite because the roots that they grow in perlite are the same ones they grow in soil. The more you know π π
@princesspitstop hey! Yes heβs right π€© I transition mine from water to soil gradually byβ¦ wellβ¦ dumping a little dirt in the vase each week. The roots go crazy! And then I deep water when I put them in a pot.
@RealSimpleMama Wild! That's so smart!! π€ πππ
@RealSimpleMama you'll have to excuse me. I get so excited when I learn something new I want to let everyone know! π I'm fairly new at the house plant thing. I'm more familiar with outdoor veggie garden stuff. I just recently got into houseplants when I move to the big city and didn't have acres of land to work. ππ
