Just old leaves? Light?

Hey there Greg! I hope everyone up here is staying safe and warm with this crap weather ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฝโ„๏ธ

I was trying to keep my new stingray separate from my other plants so it was in a spot with not much light and the two side stems started drooping and losing color.

I just recently got it a light so hoping the other 3 stems will be ok.

Could Iโ€™d just be the light issue or something else? Maybe old leaves?

The second picture is of one of the good leaves with a crispy spot. Not sure what thatโ€™s about eitherโ€ฆ

My stingray recently dropped yellowed leaves. I decided it was a combo of light (too little) and water (too little). I moved it closer to the window and watered a little more frequently and now putting out new growth. I wouldn't worry if your soil isn't soggy, then prob not rot.
@QualifiedWoreya so maybe just shock of cold weather and less light than needed. Iโ€™m hoping the grow light will help! Nope, I only water when the soil is dry, and I use a moisture meter
@TattedHibiscus

The most common cause of yellowing leaves among Alocasia plants is improper soil moistureโ€“in particular, overwatering. Your Alocasia likes to be kept damp (but not wet or saturated!), so keeping a regular watering schedule is key. You'll want to water your Alocasia when 25-50% of the soil volume is dry.

Lighting Requirements
For best results, place your Alocasia Stingray Plant near an east or west-facing window where it receives at least six hours of sunlight per day. Ensure also to avoid direct sunlight at all costs because this might cause the leaves to have sunburn.

Water your Alocasia Stingray until water runs out of the drain holes every time you see that the top 3 cm of the soil are dry. It's important to check the soil of alocasias frequently because they like moist substrate. With this in mind, you'll approximately water your Alocasia Stingray about once or twice a week.
Mine like to be dried out before watered again and the definitely love a good light source! I use grow lights because my house gets terrible natural light, you've got this, she's a beauty!
@KikiGoldblatt thanks Kiki! Iโ€™ll try to keep that in mind going forward. Merry Christmas!!
@skyhighsplants yeah my house has maybe one good window spot and itโ€™s completely full ๐Ÿ˜… how far away do you keep your grow lights from the plant?
I hope so! I technically have 2, but the first one had some issues coming in through mail ๐Ÿฅฒ
Merry Christmas!!
I need one!๐Ÿฅน lol, you can keep them pretty close to a grow light! My alocasia sarian reaches for it, no matter how many times I move it, it grows right back to touch the light๐Ÿ˜‚ hope you have a Merry Christmas aswell!!!๐Ÿ™Œ @TattedHibiscus
@skyhighsplants it just wants all the light! ๐Ÿ˜‚ this is my first time using a grow light so Iโ€™m absolutely clueless ๐Ÿ˜… ontop of these also being my first Alocasia. Weโ€™ll see how things go!!
Thank you!! ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿค—
@TattedHibiscus I recently got a sting ray and one leaf turned yellow after about a month. I assumed it was a light issue because he was in isolation about 10 feet from windows ๐ŸชŸ Looked closer with magnifying glass and discovered thrips. I inspected very closely at the plant shop and didnโ€™t see anything so Iโ€™m figuring they must have been in the egg stage inside the leaves and thatโ€™s why I didnโ€™t see anything then. Fortunately it was isolated at home๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ. So check closely ๐Ÿ‘€ for thrips or other pests, just to be sure.
@MariansOasis how would one notice the egg stage? Ugh dude I swear if I end up with more bugs Iโ€™m going to cry ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
@TattedHibiscus there have been a few tears ๐Ÿ˜ญ over pests. And threats that Iโ€™m never getting a new plant again! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿคช Sadly you canโ€™t see the egg stage because theyโ€™re inside the leaf wall. So best to isolate and just going to follow a strict regimen for all new plants. Shower ๐Ÿšฟ it off, Isolate for at least 2 weeks (already doing) and treat with Captain Jack bug killer for the first few weekends. With thrips and spider mites itโ€™s best to do 3-4 weeks in order to get all the life cycles. ๐Ÿคž
