Best methods for tackling collection wide fungus gnat tre...
I know this is a common question and I keep seeing the answer of Hydrogen Peroxide mixed with water as the recommended solution. I never see specifics around what concentration level to use. Please help! I am nervous that what I have wont do the trick and really dont want to lose too many plants if I can help it. I have also seen suggestions to paise waterings and let plants dry out fully, is this necessary? Should I be buying a plant friendly soap and just start all my plants with fresh soil? Willing to try anything to reduce loss!

Hi there, the one you have is the correct concentration - the 3%, not the 12%. Dilute 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 3 parts water so if you’re making 2 cups, that’s 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide to 1.5 cups water. If you’re doing a soak of your full pot, I’d highly recommend buying bigger quantity bottles of hydrogen peroxide because you need such large quantities for root rot soaks or waterings. I buy 2 litres at a time on eBay. I’m sure you can buy it on Amazon too.
You can literally soak your pot in a bucket or tub for an hour without worrying. If you’re super scared, you can also just water it with you solution without having your pot stand in water for soaking. Agree with the other poster re the yellow sticky traps / the adult flies are attracted to them and you’ll capture a ton.
There are biological solutions too ie using beneficial bugs. Nematodes are one option. Some people also swear by mosquito bits though I personally haven’t tried them. I’m currently trying the hypoaspis mite as they target both fungus gnats and thrips - it’s only been 2 days though so no action yet :)
These pesky things shouldn’t do much actual damage to your plants but they are insanely annoying - I feel your pain! 🌿🌿🌿

I do the same as @Shells_Garden with some nice stones/bark/sand on the top helps stop them from getting in/out the soil takes some time. Also so times the gnats are already in the soil when you buy it so it may not be just one plant that needs to be put in the naught corner 😂
Hey there! I've been having issues with gnats and the methods that have worked best for my plants are mosquito dunks, when I water my plants I let the mosquito dunk sit in the water for half hour/hour, then water, they have a bacteria in them that kills the gnat larvae, this with the sticky traps for adults has been really good, still get the odd gnat now and again, but for the most part this has really worked !
