Good morning Watering Hole gang! We got our first good snow of the season in NYC. It’s such a delicious contrast to the see the lush little plant corner up against the frozen snowiness outside. No big updates here otherwise. My Buffy still keeps giving me beautiful flowers every morning. I didn’t realize they close up at night. Scared me at first. And my albino Frydek pup isn’t quite done yet - I think he may be trying to push one more leaf - I hope this one has some green. How are all of you?? #TheWateringHole #brunchataudreys
10ft to light, indirect
6” pot with drainage

@Jho Look at those sweet begonia blooms 😍 And I’m really envious of your snow ❄️ It was 50 here in eastern WA yesterday and that’s not normal for us this time of year. Bring on the ❄️❄️❄️

My only blooms at the moment are my Christmas Cactus and I’m SO EXCITED about them 🙌
@Jho Ohh how beautiful Josh!! 🥰 That seriously looks like a black and white picture. Burrrr! A cold front came through San Antonio here last night 50° the highs today with a low in the 40's by morning. Your home looks nice and cozy 💓 I'm taking it slow today. Buffy's flowers are beautiful 🥰
Good morning all at #TheWateringHole ! Thanks for getting us started @Jho 🙌. Your tree looks great, you’ve got your 2025 ornament I see 👀! We typically add a new ornament every year. It’s fun to look back at them, try to remember when we got & where we got each one. My tree is a combo of a few treasured ornaments from my childhood, ornaments from our travels and any that involved my daughter directly 🥰🫠🥹. Oh and pets ornaments too. Even though many are rainbow 🌈 bridge pets they’re still in our hearts 🐈 🐕 🐱🐶🐾
#TheWateringHole @Jho Good Morning! 🌞 A lil cloudy 🌥️ today, temperature going up to 55• degrees, in New Mexico! Wow, 👀 at that ❄️🥶, I will have to send you some 🌞, ASAP! That’s a great view from your 🪟, I used to live in New York City, until I retired! A photo of my Arrowhead Vine aka “Hamilton” with his full fluffy 🍃🍃🍃🍃 as he displayed them on his trellis. My plants seemed to enjoy trellises over Moss Pole. Nothing exciting today, just a 📺 relaxing Sunday! Everyone have a great easy and relaxing Sunday on purpose!
Sooo many plants to water yesterday on top of a sick grand pup 🐶, my riding lesson 🐴 , Christmas decorations (still no tree up yet though 🎄😬) and a party at our neighbors 😮‍💨 🫩 💤. Thankful that today is devoted to decorating the tree 🌲 👍. So I’ve got a few plants that just do nothing and this itty bitty Panda syngo is one of them. I’ve tried all the usual things and it really hasn’t done much in the last couple of years. Any thoughts, tips, suggestions?? It’s in a 4” pot, roots are fine, new potting soil about 1 year ago. Bright light, no direct sun. Water on Greg schedule about every 10 days. After Nadia’s @DreamMachine post regarding underwatering I’m wondering if that might be the case. Greg suggests 1/2 cup 💦. It leaves her pretty dry for a couple of days before the next 💦. Do you keep your syngoniums more on the dry side or damp side??
Heaven! 🤩
#TheWateringHole @Jho Good Afternoon I’m not really a fan of snow per se ( I like to look at it from afar) but a bit cooler weather would definitely be welcome. I’d take anything under 70 degrees! There were 36 plants needing attention yesterday, as they don’t all fit on the kitchen island I only watered about 10. For today we have 21, the remainder from yesterday plus the new ones from today. But I wanted to share what I found in the oasis yesterday. The the Sansevieria Starfish Boncel is working on a little offshoot. I am always happy when I see that it lets me know that the plant is alive and growing, albeit very slowly! Then there’s the Sansevieria Mikado showing off a new leaf. The new leaves look so cool with the variegation, unfortunately the intensity doesn’t last and sometimes gets totally lost. @debbiedo nice looking Christmas Cactus! @princesspitstop I just might have to come to San Antonio the highs of 50 degrees sounds just about perfect! @MariansOasis Did I miss the pic of your Christmas tree?? I so wanted to gush over your ornament collection! @SweetAzurebluet The temps today in Albuquerque sound absolutely perfect. And your Arrowhead is so lush and fluffy 🥰🤩. @MariansOasis Oh, I see I just read your next post, looks like you have been a very busy lady. Here’s wishing all of you a relaxing, enjoyable Sunday and take care and stay warm!
@Ms.Persnickety Congratulations on all your 🐍 Plants growth! 👏🏾 Even through the winter months, no matter the seasons, our plants still continue to amaze us! Thanks much, I love Arrowhead Vine Plants, there is such a wide variety. The temperatures here have been great, but still 🆒er at night! You have a great relaxing Sunday on purpose! 😉
@MariansOasis I water my Syngonium every 4 days, by then the soil for mine is dry. You might need to push up the watering schedule! How about a trellis?
@Ms.Persnickety sweet little pup! Striking variegation on your Mikado!! 🤩. We’re working on the 🎄now. Years ago we got an artificial tree because real ones were a premium price💰. We’ve used it for probably 20 years!! It’s heavy and losing its needles slowly but surely lol😝. May be the last year for the big guy🥹 🎄. Not decorated yet, will post pics later 😊
@SweetAzurebluet Hamilton looking better than ever!!! 🥰
@SweetAzurebluet you know I’ve tried moss poles & trellises, they’re both a no go for my guys. I think like you said, I need to water more often. I put this little guy front and center in my kitchen to stay on top of 💦. See if it makes a difference. Thanks!!
@MariansOasis Thanks much, my dear!
@MariansOasis oh, okay, I hope the revised watering schedule works for you!
@SweetAzurebluet me too! I think I have a couple of pothos that may be suffering from too long between waterings as well.
Hello everyone at #TheWateringHole! Don’t know how I missed this post earlier. @Jho No snow here, just COLD and windy! We purchased our first artificial Christmas tree on Nov. 23 and finally got it decorated last night. We’ve been enjoying it every night with just the lights on it. Did more watering today after we got home from Sunday School and church. @Ms.Persnickety Love your new Mikado leaf! I’m so excited that mine is finally putting out its first new leaf since I got it. Hope mine will be as pretty as yours! My moonshine snake plant is putting out another new leaf. My starfish snake plant has only put out 1 new leaf since I got it. It is definitely a slow grower! The decoration on the kitchen island (which doubles as my watering spot and plant photo spot) was a wedding gift from a couple who are both now deceased. The card from them is still in the bottom of the box it came in.
I’m still on my new plant fast. It’s hard coming on here everyday and admiring everyone’s new plant acquisitions ! I did however, take advantage of a Land’s End sale and free shipping offer yesterday. I always seem to buy myself a few things during the Christmas shopping season.
Hope everyone has had a great weekend! I have enjoyed being off from work and staying home!
@debbiedo Your Christmas cactus is beautiful! Looks like it’s a real Christmas cactus!
@SweetAzurebluet That Arrowhead plant is beautiful!
@Jho @MariansOasis @princesspitstop @SweetAzurebluet @Ms.Persnickety @RefinedSandwort @MamaLinne @debbiedo Good afternoon #TheWateringHole !! 🫶🏼 I’m coming at you the other side of my 8year olds birthday party 🎊 It was success 🥂 (bubbly water in those glasses 😉) only two baby 2 inch plants were knocked over and we still have enough pizza 🍕 left over for dinner so this mama is 🥳 🥱🥳😴

Both my Thai con and regular monstera put out some banging new leaves! Beautiful one for the deliciosa and the first fenestrated one for my Thai con 🥹

And my tortum’s new leaf is delightfully messy 🥰
@RefinedSandwort Good Evening! Gorgeous Xmas Tree and those lights are beautiful! Congratulations on your newly sprouting 🍃🍃🍃 of your 🐍 Plant. I decided since November, no new plants for me. The ones, I have are feeling and being well. Love the Wedding decoration, definitely special to remind you of the couple, you’ve known! 😍
@DreamMachine Good Evening! Congratulations and “Happy Birthday”, to your 8 year old! 🙌 Your Monsteras are 👀 fabulous and those 🍃🍃🍃🍃 are huge! 🤩 I had to laugh at the way, you described your “Tortum”! My new 🍃 sprouted the same way! I also have mine on a trellis, it did take to it! 😉
@RefinedSandwort Thanks much, my dear! 😉
@DreamMachine yay for surviving kiddo birthday parties! Did you new plants come in?
@RefinedSandwort beautiful tree Joy!! 🤩 😱 😍 We got a faux tree that year too! I love the smell of real trees, but they are so expensive these days, and it’s kind of nice to be able to put it up whenever you want! Got a Norfolk pine this year, potted, for the smell ☺️
@SweetAzurebluet they’re so fun to watch open! Like if Tim Burton/Nightmare Before Christmas was a plant 😂😂
@MariansOasis That Is what we do too! I have my treasured ornaments from childhood, (I’ve got a LOT of birds and snowflakes 😁) we each got a new one on Christmas Eve from our parents, and occasionally from others too.

My husband had like 3 ornaments and they weren’t all that special to him, so I’ve made it a point to either make him or gift him a really special one every year so he gets his own collection too 🥰 and I’m carrying on the Christmas Eve ornament gift tradition for my daughter as well. Opening up the ornaments and putting them on the tree is one of my most favorite things ever! 🎄
@DreamMachine indeed, they are. Make sure, you take all the photos of your “Tortum” unavailing from beginning to end. I wish I would have. I still have one 🍃 that hasn’t unraveled yet!
@DreamMachine My hubby has been wanting to go artificial for a few years now. Not only did I give in once the argument started, I ended up paying for it!
@MamaLinne yes they did!! The anthurium looked barely scathed from the 8 day trip, the dragons breath alocasia was pretty beat up, but roots and corm looked great so I have every confidence it’ll bounce right back. Then I got a bonus plant, a polka dot one I think? It’s not doing too well, and I’m not sure if it’s really a “bounce right back” kind of plant 😬 But oh well! The plants I paid for I think will do fine!
I love the new baby corm! The baby leaves when the corms come up are the cutest, it’s such a beautiful color! You have a great view, it’s beautiful that’s crazy you’ll have a white Christmas! 🎄 I love your Buffy, she’s such beautiful colors, is that first picture a fig??
Everyone’s plants look gorgeous! @DreamMachine I just got the very same little polka-dot plant! lol She’s in with my ponytails acclimating! 🤣
@RefinedSandwort wow, now I want to know what he said! He must be an excellent debater 😏
@SweetAzurebluet 👏🏼 I am!! 😂😂 I’ve been taking a picture every day!! 😂 (Because like you, I didn’t do that last time!)
@MariansOasis re your syngonium; how dry do you let it get before you water? If watering a bit more doesn’t help, or even if it does, I would still also wonder what kind of temperature do you keep it in? Along with light, temperature is a big motivator for growth to happen. Seedling heat mats can do wonders for small plants and cuttings if the room temperature is a bit lower than they want 🌿 🩶
@DreamMachine I felt bad for him complaining about how hard it was getting up and down putting on the lights. Since he is older than me and not working full time, I volunteered to pay for it.
@RefinedSandwort aww, you have a good heart ❤️
@RefinedSandwort That is one giant tree it must have taken you all day and night to get all the lights up and decorations up! And your Snake plants look gorgeous. Yes they do take their sweet time growing new leaves, but it’s so rewarding when they do!!
@DreamMachine He has offered to get me a small “real” tree for the smell, but I have am letting it slide for now. I’ve been too busy. I wouldn’t mind one of those potted Norfolk pines if I thought I could keep it alive! @Ms.Persnickety It’s a 7 foot pre-lit tree. Putting on the lights was what my hubby wanted to get out of. We had been getting smaller real trees d/t price. We definitely used more ornaments this year!
@DreamMachine what cuties!
@DreamMachine I love those funky Tortum leaves ! And great job pulling off the bday party 🙌
@RefinedSandwort Yes, it is a real one!
@MariansOasis we do the same with ornaments! Every year has a new story to tell and the ornaments are the the wayposts. 🤩 I have one from interning in the PA Capitol in college, when I first got my license, when I bought my first kayak, the year we brought Maxie home, etc. Funny story for this year - I ordered that 2025 ornament you noticed from an ad I got, thought it looked cute and ordered it back in like September. Well, it came from overseas so it took awhile to get here. When it finally arrived, I opened the box and Hector YANKED it out of my hand and said, “You’re not supposed to see that yet!” I said, “well i ordered it, I don’t think it’s a surprise?” We eventually figured out that we were served the same ad, both ordered it, and Hector’s came a few weeks later. 😂 I think he ordered his over the summer when my hair was more sunbleached - otherwise he may have a blonde bf on the side. 🤣 I agree - the pet ornaments stay over the years and honor them after they have moved beyond us. @DreamMachine that monstera is a CHONKY boy! No hate, so am I. Yay for the new tortum leaf!!
@Idplantthat thank you! We’re gonna hit 50s later on this week so probably not a white Christmas but it was a nice little intro to winter. I was just checking out the Scalprum corms - I think I am beginning to see teeny tiny leaf tips finally! Almost time to acclimate. 🙃 And yup, that’s a FLF from my best friend since high school. Her Fig was getting too tall so she lopped off the top and rooted it for me. And then I did the same for her with my monstera. That fig is so resilient - people talk about how picky they are but this one just does his thang. Takes a nap in winter but comes back strong in the spring. Never dropped a leaf, although I have had to cut a few from them getting mangled with Maxie thrashing his toys. 😂
@Jho that is so stinking cute that you both got the same ornament!! Are you hanging both on your tree? 🥰 🥰
@DreamMachine haha of course! One on the left-hand side, one on the right-hand side. 🤣
@DreamMachine so happy to see the birthday party 🥳 was a success !!! Only 2 🪴 🪴 knocked over? That’s amazing! Monsteras looking fab!!!🙌
@MariansOasis it was really funny, my little two inch Hoya Lisa had fallen directly into the cats shallow water bowl that I have near all my plants. (It started as a simple “humidifier” and of course the cats claimed it as theirs). But it landed right side up! so my sister and a friend of mine, who hadn’t seen it fall, had been wondering what my method was with that. 😂

I saw it and said ‘whoops! Let’s get you out of there’ and they laughed because they weren’t sure if it was supposed to be there. It got an extra bottom watering 🤷🏼‍♀️
@Jho, look at those cuties! Yay! 😁 They look fabulous. I’m so excited to see them pop leaves! I love 💕 that Maxie has gotta shake those toys till they can’t shake it anymore, and thank god for resilient plant buddies!
@DreamMachine so busy yesterday I didn’t get back on Greg except for some late afternoon 💦 💦 before walking the dog 🐕 🚶. I love Christmas ornaments and always have! My husband didn’t have any special ornaments either so we started collecting them from the very start! No matter where we are he’ll be the first one into any Christmas store 🎄. And when we travel we have to get a souvenir ornament 🙌. Here’s Ireland 🇮🇪 and Sedona 🤭☃️🏜️
@MariansOasis ahhh I love the bus!!! Oh sh*t that reminds me I was meaning to get my hubby some kind of camper van one this year 🤣 Thank you for the reminder!
@DreamMachine following the Greg schedule the syngoniums were getting 💦 about once every 7-10 days. Getting mostly dry between. I’m going to try more frequent 👍. I’m curious what temp you keep yours mature syngos at? Our temps indoors never go below 64 degrees. Usually daytime temps now = 68-72 degrees.
@DreamMachine lol glad to help you remember! 🎗️🫡
@Jho omg Josh that’s hysterical 🤪 🤣. Sounds like something we’d do! You’re not supposed to see that! well I ordered it!! 🤣🤪😜😆😝. Ornaments are such a great way to remember and honor special moments, people, times of our lives, pets…. Mine aren’t up yet, that’s today’s thing to do. We’ll have to share some special ones ie PA capitol, kayak and Maxie 💖
@DreamMachine love that your Lisa landed right side up!! Good Hoya ⭐️🌟
@MariansOasis Hmmm, well that seems like an adequate temperature! Thats pretty much exactly what our house is at. I would just keep on with the consistent watering, but if that doesn’t improve things within the next few weeks then I would probably try seeing how it likes it on a seedling heat mat, if you have one? They never get too warm, and it just makes them cozy and comfortable. And I forgot if you said it has a grow light or not? Or adequate natural light?

Also that is SO sweet that your hubby started collecting his own too 🥰 Mine never really expressed interest, and never got excited about putting ornaments up on our trees, but I think that was a normal response to how things were when he was a kid. (And if he really just wasn’t interested that would have been okay, but I just had a feeling that no one had ever made it special for him) So THIS year, I actually saw his eyes 👀 light up when he unwrapped his ornaments from the tissue, and then he put them up himself!! 🙌🏼🥰🥰 I only wish I had realized that earlier in our relationship! So I’ve only made him two ornaments, 2 years ago—a Grateful Dead 13 point lightning bolt, and last year—a felted and embroidered pickle 🥒 (his nickname). 😁
@MariansOasis LOL Marian!! I just got a notification that the sailboat ornament I’d ordered my husband is coming today 🤣🤪 He’s loved camper vans forever, but just recently got into boats, so I completely forgot that I had changed my mind on the camper 🤣
